lights in rear view blinking

hello, this isnt for me, but my friend has a 96 c280 and sometimes when she locks or unlocks the car the lights on the rear view(red and green ones) blink like crazy and dont stop, even when she starts the car, i have no clue what this means and she doesnt have her owners manual, so i figured i'd ask if some of you guys have had the same problem and can maybe help me solve it, thank you

Check the batteries in the key.

having a similar prob. to reset press remote twice then turn key to position 1 in 30 secs.

Im pretty sure that its the key batteries that are weak with those symptoms.

The mirror lights dont blink at all when you lock and unlock the doors.. but the remote still works to lock/unlock??
hmmm.. got me.. maybe faulty mirror assembly? but then you would think that the key wouldnt unlock and lock the doors from the key.
