Neither of those will do much good if you don't have VW high performance muffler bearings.
hey,
Does the stock setup not have an IC at all?...if not than IC will give good gains but you may be limited by the ECU if there is poor flexibility in the parameters....
filter will also help, alot more on a turbo than an N/A....
goodluck on the HP mission;)

yes the car stock comes with a small intercooler on the right front area in front of the wheel.
I have a 1.8t Jetta.. chipping it is worth 50hp at the most.. a downpipe I heard adds 25hp and exhaust system .. 5-15hp? the downpipe I think is a big restriction..

Man, you guys don't have performance muffler bearings!?!
The dealership made sure I bought two sets...one for gravel and one for pavement.

Don't feel stupid...feel angry that you don't have muffler bearings!
Actually, that's just a part we made up when making prank calls to service departments dealerships. Eventually the poor sap on the phone has to go and ask his manager if they stock muffler bearings which makes him look pretty stupid...that's the kind of thing that is pretty tough to live down as eventually the mechanics find out.
For best results, specify that you need the muffler bearings for gravel as your pavement bearings are still fine.
...If you can't get anywhere with that, ask for a price on the Right-hand-drive conversion kit for your power steering rack...that's a great conversation starter with the service manager.
