View Full Version : Spring pad number...?

I know that the spring pad # can be determined by the number of "bumps" on the pad, but where are they exactly? I can feel three bumps on the outer edge of the pad, outside the spring, are these them? I was under the impression they were on the inside, but I'm sure I could me wrong.

I was kinda hoping I had #2 pads so I could raise the rear significantly, rather than just 4mm with #3 pads. I just installed my Vogtland springs, and the rear is too low for my taste; the tires are actually tucking in compared to a 1-2 finger gap in the front.

BTW, I hope this hasn't been asked before, I searched and didn't find anything specific enough.

you found them man.. they are located on the bottom edge of the shim.

well if you have a #3 pad in the rear.. u can go up to a #5 and maybe raise your car about 1/4".

Slammed_C:
I was under the impression there were only four sizes for the rear...?

I ordered some 13mm pre-96 pads from the stealership to stack under my #3s. With these, a half inch higher should give me no gap, no tucking.

Blkc230:
Not sure what size pad is in the front, I could check though. I love the springs. I'm rather impressed that there's zero drop in ride quality, but I do have quite a bit of sidewall with the stock 15"s. The car feels like it should have come this way from the factory.

(BTW, accidently logged onto an old screen name above, that's why theres a slight difference.)

Just had my Vogtlands with Koni shocks installed yesterday... i agree, it feels like my car should have came like this. The ride quality is great. Only problem is, i have 18s, and we used a number 1 pad, and its so low that i rub on every turn. So now we gotta change those pads t a 4 or 5 up front. It sucks cuz i like how it looks with the 1 pad, its jut not driveable. Thanks for the part numbers on the Pad's i was looking for em.

Does anyone know the OEM spring pad sizes for a 94 C280?

Depends on your options. It's easy to check, don't even really have to take off the wheel.

Search and you shall find.

I just wanted to find out the stock pad # so when I lower my car in a couple of weeks, I know the base size if I need to go up or down depending on the look of the car. I plan to use the stock pads but if its too low, I will increase the pad size but wanted to get some in hand ready to install if needed.

Spring diameter all the same.

The early model has the spring end tappered flat on the top.
so the spring pad on the earlier model has no groove/channel to accomodate this.

With the later model (w210 part number) end of the spring is cut just like regular coil spring. These W210 spring pad has channel to accodmodate that.

With that being said, if you have pre 97 model and want to use the newer spring you can, but I'd recommend using the W210 part number for the spring pad.

I have posted in the past the difference between these 2 spring pad. (I also posted a trick to double stack spring pad --> using the W201 part number combo with W210 pad).

Hope this helps.

J Irwan

Is there a way to tell what spring pad you have with them installed by just taking the wheel off?

I can tell with the wheel on. Just look at the top of the spring and the pad and it will have bumps, either 1, 2, 3, or 4. Mine has 3 up front and 2 in the rear. I want to change my front to ones so they look as low as the rear.

OK so what do these bumps represent? drop the car by 1,2,3,4 inches or cm's or whatever? Does anyone knows for sure?

Each spring pad differs by 4mm with #1 being the thinest at 5mm.
