you dont need a tool, just a firm grip and it should open, but do it when the engine is cold, that way it will unscrew easily.

Well if you would all like to continue to do things the wrong way!!.. then go ahead. lol

but yes there is a special tool that MB uses to remove the oil filter from the housing.. if you can open it with your hand, Id be impressed!!
The tool is available from the dealership, and you may find something that would work at a pep boys or somehting similar.
I dont think the tool is very much.. cant remember what I payed for mine.. I will post the part number tomorrow for you if you are interested.

Part # for MB oil filter cover removal tool... 103 589 02 09 00
you will need a 3/8" drive ratchet, 8" extension and a 22mm socket to use with the tool.
works like a charm.

the part is 25.00 bucks a real ceritfied mercedes RIP OFF.

you can get a plastic version at pep boys for 8.00

i have the mercedes one but i wish i would of gotten the plastic one.

i just use a cresent wrench on the tool. Make sure to get the gasket in the correct place and to tighten only enough to seal it so you dont crush the o ring, if you do when ur driving and pressure builds up you will have detonation and oil will spray all over your engine bay and may cause daamage to your engine internals. Happed to me once luckly i stopped soon enough and pushed it into a gas station.

good luck
