long story short, oil squirted out from the filter housing because the rubber gasket dislodged while the filter was being tightened down. car's oil pressure warning light came on and -2.0Q was flashing in the dash...

..so i tried topping off the oil and checked the dipstick every so often, but even after filling 2.5Q, there was not a single drop of oil on the dipstick whatsoever. the warning light did however turn off... im not sure how much oil was lost in the mishap. any ideas?

also, where can i get a topsider?

You can find topsiders at almost any marine supply store. They run about $45. You'll never regret it. One word of advice, cut a notch in the end of the tube that is inserted into the dipstick. This will prevent it from self sealing against the bottom of the oil pan.
