Here's a question.
Where are you guys getting these new keys and how much do they cost?
If i were to buy a key from ebay, can it be reprogrammed? Thanks

i got mine at the dealer, they have to order them from germany, they are made to order and will arrive in 3 days, if you dont know someone at the dealer your will pay close to $300, if you have a friend then about $120
yes you can buy one from ebay, the only thing that will work is if you have a laser cut piece made at the dealer, you cannot reprogram to have it start engine or open doors.

Just press and hold. Try it hold the key close to the ir receiver on your door at first to get the hang of it. Then you can play with the distance and angle. Also, try a search on the forums. I remember seeing something about it when I got mine awhile ago. As soon as I read this, I grabed my key and ran into the garage. Just as I had read, I was pleasently suprised. Very cool feature. Also, as I remember VW made a big deal about it where you actually had to put the key in the lock.

Stand at your driver's side then press and hold the unlock button. The windows and sunroof should open. Press and hold the lock button to close them. :)

If your car is equipt with the feature there is a small black square on your door handle. There is one on both driver and passenger side so it can be done on either side. Usually as long as your key is lined up with the square or in range of a reasonable distance it should work. All you have to do is press the lock and hold it for everything to open and press the lock and hold it for everything to close. It may not be working for you all the time because you are not pointing it in the direction of the little square sensor on the door handle. It's a life saver man, do you know how often I get out of the car and close the door before I realize I left the sunroof cracked...
BTW... what does the new smart key look like, I don't know if I have one. Anyone have a picture of one. If its smaller I deff. want one...

yeah i think thats infared so u have 2 be in range (pretty close w/nothing blocking the little black sensor thingies), kinda smart so u dont accidentally open ur windows by pressing button in ur pocket, and the closing the sunroof outside of the car feature is by far the most convenient thing ever, so awesome

whoever pays 300 is getting ripped off at the stealership..
if i can remember right.. the smart key cost about 120 and the laser cut key cost about another 20...
its kind of cool when someone ask you where the key is and you say "that is the key fool..." "really, O"

I don't know what you guys are talking about...
From what I know, every key mercedes made AFTER 1999 had a chrome star on the key and also on the steering wheel. When i think about the smart key, I'm thinking the little small one's with the chrome star on the back, but the panic button on the bottom of the key, where the infared part is...instead of on top of the key.
