Where is it located, I heard its in the trunk, but where. Also, I looked around on ebay and benz sites, and it seems to be around $40, but which one should i get? Finally, how hard is it to change myself. Thanks

the fuel filter on all 202's is located underneath the car, next to the fuel pump. its not hard to replace it, one hour if you never did it before. buy the one for your application, ie. year, make and model, some may require vin #.

What will I need to do to get to it? Such as, will I just need to jack the car up, mess with a few screws, and ill be done. or should I take it to a shop and have them do it. Thanks

you will have to jack up the rear end of your car(slide the jack under the diff, jack it up, and place the jack stands under the lower control arms, lower the jack until the vehicle is completely resting on the stands). then, on the pass side next to the driveshaft you will see a black cover, and if you look from behind, you will see the fuel pump(s) and the filter. to remove the plastic cover, you will need 10mm socket and one long extention since the holes that the nuts are in are pretty deep. when you remove the cover and have the access to the fuel pump and the filter, do this first. pinch the thick rubber hose that is connected to the fuel pump to prevent gas from pouring down on you and the ground. next, place a bucket or similar underneath the pump and filter area to catch the small amount of fuel that will release when you undo the hoses and fuel lines. now you are ready to loosen the rubber hose clamp from the pump with the phillips screw driver(you need to do this to be able to slide the filter out of there and put a new one in), undo the filter lines( 17mm and 19mm wrenches, two of each) and loosen the ring that holds the filter with the phillips screw driver as well. slide the new filter in, and reverse the procedure to finish up. DO NOT FORGER TO UNPINCH THE RUBBER HOSE, OR YOUR CAR WONT GO ANYWHERE! after you are done and the car is back on the ground, start the car(might need to crank for a while so the fuel can pass thru the new filter) and observe to see if there is a leak, if not, congrats on your first fuel filter change.

its really that simple I had no instructions to do it but the general idea, take something like vicegrips and put something in the clamping part such as cardboard to protect the hose make shure you clamp it hard but not to hard to break the hose, its quite simple once its clamped just swap the filter, there are two options to replacing the filter make shure you tell them if you have an amg or non amg car I gave my dealer the vin I got home with the wrong filter even my Sport model has a different filter then the Standard C i can post the parts numbers if you would like. once the filter is changed turn the car on but dont start, wait a bit then crank the engine buy now the fuel filter should have filled with gas have a friend watch for leaks. Done it took me 10 min
you may want to get different clamps for the hose mine were a springy type i replaced them with screw type from the dealer.
one thing not mention make shure the flow arrow on the filter goes on the same way as you took it off.
best part is some lost power is restored after a tune up my ASR light was coming on like mad feels like there is more power in the seat of my pants

Alright, I went to a shop today and saw where the filter is on the car, dosent seem that hard. I will order the filter today. I have a 95c220, non sport or amg as some of you suggested. I am ready to order the filter, and saw a few diffrent ones on ebay, around the range of $40. Then saw this, will this work? Thanks

Did you price one at your local M-B dealer?
Sometimes they will surprise you. ;)

Well, I went to kragen, they said $50. I went to 2 local shops and they said around $35 to $40, plus $40 for install. I want to start learning how to do these things, repairs, ect. I figured I buy the filter and do it myself. I can call the local benz dealer to ask, but I dont think they will be lower then $50. Thanks tho

go under the car if it has clamps then that one with threads is wrong if you car has no clamps then the threaded one is needed, to save your self the hassel go under the car and pull the parts number off go to your dealer and get the part its cheaper belive me
by the way those prices are euro not USD

I called the local benz parts and service center and got the part # for my fuel filter based on my vin number. Its 002 477 2701. They were asking $50.

I think I mentioned that I got one based on my vin and drove home to find it was the wrong one, best bet is to look at yours on the car now

I just did and confirmed it, to make sure. The best price I found for the filter is $20 at German Star plus $7 shipping, which is best sofar. I will order it and install, ill be sure to take pics and make a guide line for the next rookie like me. ;)

This is a messy job imho. I do most of my own work, but gladly paid my tech the .5 hour rate to change this thing out. It's easy enough, but to much of a PITA and messy. I'd rather pay a tech to do it and have a drink while I wait.
If you do it in your garage, make sure your hot water heater isn't in there (ie, flame near the ground = kaboom if gas happens to flood out)....if it is, do the job somewhere else.

there should be absolutly no mess what so ever if you do it correctly, did not spill on drip of fuel.

Good for you. But the point is, being human, that there could potentially be a mess and that if you are near a flame (hot water heater) best to do it elsewhere.
I'm just saying it's a job I'd pay a tech to do in a heartbeat. Not my bag.
You aren't supposed to crimp those lines off either....

How hard is it to change the tranny filter and fluid? I cant find any previous articals on how tos.
Dr.Drew
03-25-2005, 08:14 AM
tranny fluid is $$$, but I am pretty shure you just drop the pan and change out the filter.
as for clamping the fuel lines i dont know of any other way to stop the fuel from coming out. many people have told me to do it that way you just have to be carefull and put something in the teeth of the plier so that it doesn't wreck the line, up here in canada no one has there water heater in there garage.

Pretty sure is not good enough.
To change the transmission fluid, you need to drain the tourqe converter as well. This contains at least 3-4 quarts.

yep your right I just remember that, when I had my transmission replaced they used the same torque converter, but the flushed it to clear any metal debris or other debris from the converter

You will have to rotate the engine by hand slowly to find the converter drain plug. There is a lot more fluid in there then I thought.

I thought their was a place in the engine, just like the oil area. When I can pull out a dip stick and look how much is their, then pour more fluid if its low. Thx

all w202 did not come with a transmission dip stick because they are no maintance units, you will need to buy a dip stick or go to the dealer

Alright, I got the fuel filter in the mail from German Star. I also got an air filter, but thats a diffrent story. As far as the fuel filter I bought the part # is 0024772701. When I finally got a jack and went under my car, I saw the fuel filter is 0024772801. With the third the last # being a 8 instead of a 7. I cant seem to find that part # on german star or anywhere else. Well I called my local benz dealer and they said these parts are the same, but diffrent manf. made them. WOOT, I thought I was in trouble. So I will install the filter now, and let you all know how it went. Also, this is my first time being under the jack, omfg, its scary. Thanks

Alright, I changed the fuel filter and the air filter. The car runs great now, I am happy I did all the work myself rather than a shop. I hope to be changing other things soon and working on my car more. Thanks for all the help everyone, now I can help the next rookie on his way up the ladder. Thanks everyone.
