I need to change my brakes soon, as in asap. I also wash my car about every other day, and love having it as clean as can be, esp the rims. Well, I have been having problems just as any other owner of the c class with the brake dust the comes from stock pads. I have 2 options it seem, get dust covers, for about $45, or get diffrent brake pads than stock when I replace my front brakes. Which do you suggest and why? Also, the pads, I have heard PBR brake pads are good, but some people say they can wear down the rotor faster and dont have the same stopping power of the oem pads. Whats your take, and how hard is it to install the dust covers. Thx

personally I think the dust covers are ugly looking, plus they block proper air flow to cool the brakes.
and youre right on the money about aftermarket "dustless" pads. they dont have the same braking power from what I have experienced.
they are still good, but not as good as OEM pads for braking.
I have PBR front dustless pads and OEM new rotors when I did my front brakes.. I find they dont feel or brake as well as OEM pads, but they still work fine and stop my car.
I wouldnt praise them and recommend someone going out and buying them.. but if ya want no brake dust.. and dont mind slightly poorer braking.. then go for it over dust cover.

Well, what other options do I have. Why do all other cars have no dust problem but we do?

I think other car manufacturers use harder comounds in the brake pads.. giving loger life and less brake dust.
Benz uses a somewhat softer compound for better braking ability.. the compromise is slightly faster wearing brakes and dust.
just go with dustless pads.. PBR's or whatever. they work.. thats all ya need!

If you enjoy spirited driving don't get the dust covers. I had a set on my W126 when I bought it, they caused the brakes to overheat several times, severely decreasing my braking ability. They easily could have put me in a very bad situation. But, this was after repeated, very heavy braking in a very heavy car.
Under normal conditions, and even with reasonably heavy braking I don't think you'd have any problems though.
I agree that the covers look ugly too. I have PBR deluxe in the front and am happy with them. They seem to have less initial bite, but are by no means insufficient to stop the car in a hurry.

Where do you get that idea? My bro's BMW, mom's camry, and other friend's various cars have as much or more brake dust than mine. I heard that European cars were particularly prone to it because they have larger brakes than for example most Japanese or American cars.

I have seen alot of w202s with major dust on the front rims. I can wash my car so it looks new, then drive 2 miles to get gas and the front rims will have a layer of dust on them. Krazy  . I will look into getting these pads on my brake job soon.
