View Full Version : Buzzing sound coming from overhead

For the last few months there has been this wretched buzzing sound coming from the overhead console on our 1997 c230. By overhead console i mean those buttons and lights between the rear view mirror and the sunroof =).

it sounds like an open microphone.. bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

i believe the buzzing is coming from the little speaker or whatever as the car is prewired for the cell phone. we will never use this feature..

so my 1st option is to actually fix the problem... the 2nd.. probably easiest is to cut the damn thing off. how do we get that litle overhead console off? i took off the light covers but i dont see any screws or anything.

There is a fan in there that samples the air for your hvac. thats what causing the noise. So you will have to replace it.

Exzaactly! I had the same problem too. It IS one annoying mofo of a problem, but fortunately not too expensive to fix.

I utilizeed a silicon spray lubricant or similar, pay attention only a little without spray the around area. Obviously you need to dismount the domelight to access to the rear, you'll see a small fan housing and if I'm not wrong the small fan shaft you have to lubricate.:)

how do i dismount the dome light?! i cant get it off... i got the lenses off the dome light.. now what?

Is this the same buzzing sound that comes out of the ac or is it just for the dome light area. I get buzzing sounds from the AC only when i accellerate. Any ideas?

it's quite simple, with the plastic lenses off you can see two metal clip. Utilizind a smal flat screwdriver push them and you can force the domelight assembly out.

sorry can't understand your problem. I don't know if it's related but mine is with manual AC and I can't hear any buzzing sound from the AC. As I know the only AC fun is the one into the domelight.:(
