I noticed a few people on this forum, lower using new springs but don't update the shocks as well.

Isn't this really bad?

depends on the shock, how much you lower, and the mileage on your current shocks.

Thanks for the reply. In my case I have 60k, want to go as low as possible.

Would I need both shocks & springs?

The quick answer would be "yes"

But a more robust answer can be gotten to if you state your specific needs. Here's how I'd breay things down:

Reasons to get both at the same time:

1. Shocks are at 60k, and a replacement wouldn't hurt
2. Save on labor by doing both at the same time, and only doing one post-work alignment.
3. Get a new parts combination that is known to work well and have them both start fresh.

Reasons not to get both:
1. Shocks, while not a great match with shorter springs, may last some miles yet.
2. Short term cash flow would favor buying shocks at a later time
3. If this is motivated soley for "looks" you may not mind shocks that are anywhere short of totally blown.

If at all possible get both, if you're leaning towards springs only, then have a really good reason why you shouldn't get new shocks.
