I believe Tiptronic was only in 2000+ MY.

Hi, I'm Renn 208 and I'm a pedantic freak.

That being said, "Tiptronic" is an VAG trademark and so applies to porsches, audis, vws, etc.

The Mercedes equiv is "Touch-Shift" with the AMG models getting "Speed-Shift programming"

Totally trivial...but hey, why not throw that out there. ;)

LOL!! Once again Renn demonstrates he is a walking encyclopedia....or as he would call it.....

Erm, I think walking encyclopedia is more friendly :p

As far as this conversion from a 97 to a 99, I don't know the logistics but if you can get the crap 5 speed from the 97 out of there in favor of the newer touch shift, hey, you are better off!! It may save you a headache down the road ;)

I remember reading somewhere on here, or well might have been somewhere else that stated it wasn't too hard to add the tiptronic to our trannys, or replace it with the 2k tiptronic tranny, something like just one item needed to be replaced beside the sinde to have the feature to shift left or right, not sure on this at all, but can anyone continue on this?

I have the touch-shift in my w202. Not sure if it was available in 99.

Hello All,
I'm from Canada and new to the Mercedes scene. I was glad to find this board, as i have a lot of questions about my new car. I just bought a 1999 C43. It's original owner was an older man who babied it. It's silver with the black/grey two tone leather. It's immaculate with 70,000kms on the clock (43,750 miles).

To the point of the post; one of the few things i'd like to change on the car is the gear selector. I'd love to upgrade to the 'touch shift' selector. Has anyone here done this and can they advise how easy or difficult/ expensive it is?

First of all, welcome to the forums!

Secondly, I have not seen a single post from someone who has successfuly done the swap themselves, so at best, any responses you'll receive will be purely speculative.

That being said, there are a few MB techs on this board who might be able to give you at least an educated guess...

Good luck! and enjoy the C43!

Thanks for the welcome, and i am very much enjoying the C43. The car was made for me!

I am planning to keep the car looking fairly stock, but with some subtle mods like lowering springs to get the stance and help the cornering, and maybe some mild performance mods for that extra kick in the seat. Any advice is welcome.
