I recently went to autozone to pull my codes because my cel is on. They informed me that they could only pull 96' and newer models and that "special equipment" is needed to pull my codes. Does anyone know what the difference is and what I need to buy to check my own codes when I have problems. Thanks! :D

That sounds like a load of BS. Tell them to do it anyway. I have a 1994 C280 and have had my codes pulled at numerous places. Of course, I had to convince them that it would work on a 1994. Some cars had OBD-II Before 1996. It was in 1996 when it was federally mandated that the cars have it.

Agreed. Autozone gave me the exact same line when I took my 94 C280 in to be scanned. I finally just had to go to a different store and lie to them. I told them I indeed had a 1996, so they pulled the codes without a problem, and for free. Goes to show the kind of people who work at AutoZone, maybe?

when u go to autozone, tell them your car is a obd II vehicle. thier actron scanners (i have it) will work.

they do this cuz teh obdII standard kicked in in 1996 for all cars. some cars (such as benz) started earlier.
