Ok, so as I was making my way to class this morning, I was driving with the windows down and thought I picked up a nail and got a flat. I heard the usual sound of a tire going flat and an almost like slapping sound or a tire hitting the ground. I got out of the car and examined it, and found that all the tires were in fine condition. I isolated the sound as coming form the right rear (passenger side) tire/wheel/suspension area. Like I said, as I was driving, it made a sound like a flat tire- a constant sound as the wheel rotated. The sound was like a clap or click when the wheels were at a certain position during a rotation. No CEL light, Tranny light, etc. came on. I am guessing it has to do with the suspension in the rear... Any ideason what this might be? Thanks-

hey, it could be alot of things, best thing to do is jack up the rear wheels togather on jack stands and let them run. then try it with the wheels off. might be something from teh street

like fastmayte said, it could be a number of things. if there was a clunking sound, it could be a broken sway bar link, or one of the arms. if that is the problem, get it repaired immediately! if there was a constant whining sound that got louder as you accelerated, them it might be a wheel bearing, or a worn axle. either way, get it checked ASAP.

it may be your wheel bearing giving out, check to see if there is play in the rear wheel when u jack up the car.... does it make a constant huming sound?... jacking the car up and spining the wheels may not give u anything because the suspension is no longer loaded, of course check to see if anything is loose

There is play- most definitely. I'm taking it to an independent MB mechanic on Monday to get it checked- I'm not driving it until then, so hopefully it won't get worse. The drive to the mech. is about 5 minutes so does everyone think I'm ok driving it over or shold I get it towed? Thanks-

the damage has been done, driving it shouldnt really make a diff. , dont worry about the wheel coming off or anything,

Just make sure that your mech. cleans everything really well IE. abs sensor, if that picks up any metal grinding bits, it will trip your abs light, also check the drive shaft cv boot for any rips,

Good luck

UPDATE:

Holy crap, I think someone was trying to kill me. It was loosened lug nuts after all. Tech said they looked like they were loosened with a breaker bar... better watch my back. Well I didn't die by the wheels falling off, but it didn't matter in the end because my dealership killed me by charging $56 to tighten the nuts! I told them to only look at the car (find the problem) and got charged for .6 hours of labor to tighten nuts!!!! Is it just me, or should I be infuriated???
