I'm having problems with my 1998 240 V6 sport. It revs up to 4200rpm fine, then just miss fires like it hits the rev limiter, some times it will make it to 5000rpm. I've checked all the plugs and they look fine and all the same colour. Any suggestions to what I should try next ?

check ignition cables. you might have a spark "leak". also the fuel filter might be clogged.

I'd try the fuel filter. Happened to me on my old Pontiac Parisienne, everytime I would hit the gas, at high rpm my engine would miss fuel and that gave the car a good shake sometimes.
If your rpm simply stops at 4200 then its most likely not gonna be that.

Talking to a local Merc technician he told me to take it for a drive with the mas unpluged, and guess what, it red lined no problem. Anyone know a bosch supplier at discount prices in the UK?
