My car is acting up

Hello Everyone.

As I mention before I just purchase my 1999 c280 sport in November 2004. First my engine light went on and it was the air flow sensor. I clean it from the help on the this web site and now the light is gone. Now sometime I feel that when I step on the gas the car is not responding like it is suppose to and then suddenly it take off (this happend whe I am already driving not on take off) Do you think i should do a full tune up.

If your answer is yes. Please tell me what are the must recomended parts to use or Brands.

I am new at this. But I love my c280.

compele tuneup is always a good start with performance issues. this would include spark plugs, ignition wires(depending on mileage if over 75k then replace), air filter, fuel filter, oil change w/filter, trans fluid change w/filter, cabin filter(not engine related, but needs to be changed every year or so if you use a/c alot), I would also recommend a good fuel system cleaner next time you fill up. also, remove and inspect air breathers, usually connected from the valve cover to the air intake, they may be clogged with oily residue. perform these things and see what happens.

Your question about "step on the gas", do you mean kick down? (When you try to pass other vehicle-for example)

If that's what you mean, there is actually 1-2 seconds delay from the moment you step on the gas to the actual reaction of the car downshifting and kicking in to a higher RPM. This is normal.

My car is auto. Anyway my engine light is back on. I am buying a new MAF sensor today. Hopefully that will take care of it. I will keep you guys posted on what will happen.

Hi Guys:

I finally receive the new MAF sensor. One question, lately my car has gotten worse. When I turn it on in the morning the idle goes high and it shut down. I have to start the car 3 times before it stay on. Also when I am driving you can definately feel when you step on the gas that it is not moving or getting speed. Do you think those are the symtoms of a bad MAF. I hope it is. I am getting wory. please advise

sounds like MAF or something to do with fuel.

Fuel Filter?
Fuel pump?
spark plugs?
02 sensors?
transmission?


sounds like your car needs a check up, if the CEL is on, go to autozone and get it scanned. then post the trouble code you get!

I am putting on the MAF tomorrow, I hope is not the trans, I heard is it a nightmare. I will let you know how it works with the MAF. The cel is not on. so i guess that is good.

everything you described... including the lag when you step on the gas... is very indicative of a MAS... put it in and i can almost garuntee you will solve your problem... let us know what happenes...

Hello:

First I want to say THANK YOU for all the help. My baby is back to normal. I change the MAF sensor and I didn't even had to reset the engine light. After driving for a little while it went off. The car is running beautifull.
