sunroof broken

i dont know exactly what but my sunroof is broken. it only opens a very little bit and then i have to force it back in. i think all the tracks are broken. i'm scared to bring it to mercedes..but i dont know any place to bring it to. is there anywhere to find out the price of a new sunroof? how bout the price of labor??

Local benz "specialist" told me $1500 to totally rebuild mine. I was having your same problem for a while...about 3 years ago. It worked, but took some negotiation to get it open/closed. Now virtually everything except the glass and the track is completely destroyed. Parts have literally fallen from the thing into my lap. If I could just figure out what parts I need (ie, part numbers) I'd order and try to rebuild it myself. The parts can't be that expensive. Bunch of solid pieces of plastic and light alloys.

go to a junkyard, get a used sunroof assembly, prolly around 200 or so

"Go to a junkyard" is a very common response I get around here. Unfortunately there are NO junk yards that would carry a Benz here in the TN area. At least not a Benz made after 1990.

Ever attempt a sunroof repair yourself? If you don't know exactly what you're doing, take it to a dealer. The job is fraught with pitfalls.
