Vacuum Pump gone wild!?

My power lock vacuum pump starts "Whurrrring" like crazy whenever I start my car and put it into a gear other than Park or Neutral. At idle in Park it's quiet. However, after some travel time it seems to quiet down again.

The locks work fine. I'm guessing it's a vacuum leak somewhere.

(I've already searched the site for a problem similar, but haven't found it.)

Should I be concerned? Any thoughts?

It seems like a leak. I had one in my pump and narrowed it down the the connection in the engine bay, top left area where they connect from under the passenger footwell. But it can be anywhere, good luck finding it.

Is there a better way to debug a vacuum issue? I don't know where to start!

By the way, around the same time I started noticing the vacuum pump noise my center A/C & Heater vent started malfunctioning. Some time air will flow through it and some time it doesn't. (I realize the vents are also vacuum controlled.)

How should I start looking into this?
