Guys, i am having a bit of trouble getting hold of these springs for my C36, H&R have come back to my mates shop saying they have never made a spring for my car, but i know this isnt true cos aload of ppl on the forum have put H& R springs on their C36?

i was wondering is some of you knew the part number of the springs so i could slap it on the H&R reps face ;)

almost 1 mnth of investigating and waiting and still no luck!

Alps

I think I know why..

Well
for H&R C280 and C36 actually has the same part number (29927-2)
but it was for up to mid of 96..

then as for 97 and up they have different part number
which include C43 and C280 as well.
(edit: and it includes mid 96 production of C36 and 1998-up C230K as well)

then later on H&R has the application updated
at one time they have a new part number which are the same for
C36, C43 and CLK55..

But now I just verified that the part number for CLK55 is 29377 which different than C36 and C43..
I guess they were changing some spec of the springs.. (this was approx 1-1.5 year ago)

I remember this, because I was helping fellow benzsporter with H&R spring part number as well :p

I have mine with this part number 29749-2 which is listed as C43 application as well.

In short since you have 97 C36, then go with C43 apps (29749-2)

I wish I have a snapshot of that page which still list C36 application..

Hope this helps... ;)

Guys, a little update, i gave that part number to H&R in UK, and they said it was for pre- 1995 c-classes, they gave me another part number for later ones, the same as the one for the CLK55, which ones should i go for? shall i stick to the ones you have or go for the Later model number which you say is for the CLK55?

depending on the springs you get you may need different shims or not.....

Any spring will fit yours for they 6cyl type but later on they changed spring manufacturer and had to have different shims, but any spring will fit depending on the shims.

basically for W202 they are 2 different spring (physical shape on one end)

for W202 1994-early 1996 the spring end on top is tappered (flat), and for this you have to use W201 spring pads (W201 part number)

for W202 mid 1996-on the spring end on top is the same as the bottom one...and for this you have to use W210 spring pads which has groove in it for the spring to seat correcty..(W210 part number)

Now for W202 6 cylinder that's include C280,C36 and C43 there are only 2 different part number for H&R sport kit :
1. 29927-2 ---> 1994-early1996
2. 29749-2 ---> mid 1996-2000 (include C230K)

Hope this helps.

I ended up a while ago getting Eibach springs (used) that were for the early model year C280 and they were wound flat on one end.

Since my pads and control arms were setup for the later model springs I just had to cut off the flat section so the spring had an open coil end and then everything fit fine.

yo Guys,

After weeks of Waiting, i just got a call from my mates shop saying that the springs have arrived!

I`ll check them out tonight when i collect them to make sure they are the right ones, and i`ll have them installed on Thursday!

hopefully this will cure my front end lifting on take off because of the ICe in the boot!

Alps,

I have switched pad many times. ( I was running pad #1 (w210 pad - 5mm all around with 1/2 coil cut on the front -- The rear is UNCUT !)
I have switched front pad from pad #1 to pad #5 and finally back down to #3

Below is my car with 1/2 coil cut on the front and stock 5mm pad (pad#1 W210 part) all around and at the time no ICE in the trunk yet... (this is the pic of my C36 1 week after I bought it :D:D:D: )

http://www.benzworld.org/gallery/goto.asp?id=571
http://www.benzworld.org/gallery/goto.asp?id=573

However the current height that I have is

1/2 coil cut with pad #3 (w210 part)
and the rear is pad #4 (W201 this is the thickest of W201 pad) doube stack with pad #1 (W210 pad)

The reason I double stacked the rear is because I need to raise it a little bit (because of of all my ICE gear in the trunk). That way it will be level with the front drop.

Below is the pic of my car with 1/2 coil cut on the front and double stack pad on the rear as mentioned above with ICE in the trunk !!!

PS: I will list the part number for both W201 and W210 once I got back weekend. I am not home right now ;)

Hope this helps..! ;)

If i put #1 pad in front and dont cut the 1/2 coil, on the front do you think it will sit ok? it is booked into my garaage to have the springs fitted tommorrow, and i ordered the pads yesterday from the dealers and they will arrive tommorrow too, i ordered #1 fpr the front and #2 for the rear.

currently i have #4 in the front and #2 in the back, i ordered both 210 part numbers as i have the springs you guys reccomended

opinions please

Alps, install the springs as is with #1 in the front and #2 in the back and let the spring settle before you cut anything.

Yes Alps,

It should be close to what I have now..
But if you have a lot of ICE gear in the turn I'd put #3 pad in the rear to start with ;)

ordered the spring pads from the stealership, dumbasses gave me the correct #2 for the rear, but gave me 1x #1 and 1x #2 for the front!

gonna have to get them changed now before installing!

ok guys, finally... H&R spring are in !!!

#1 pads on the front and #2 on the back , the drop is awesome!

my mechanic thought it was too low but i think it looks perfect!, i havent got my cam at the moment but soon as i have i will post some pics!

had 4 people in on sat night and it rubbed slightly when going round a bend at 100mph, but thats prob due to me still having 265 tyres on the rear!

when fully loaded the rear tyres submerge into the arch!

nice.. :D:D:D

but a lil too low on the rear for me (net to even-out front and rear drop ;) )
I take it you have some heavy ICE in the trunk :)

That's why I have double stack pad on the back :D:D:D

i may change the rear pad to a #4 at the moment i have a #2 in there, front still rubs a little when sharp cornering, but i guess theres no way of ridding that!

Let your springs settle down like a week then get an alignment.
Till then you got an awesome drop on your ride... ;) :)

Nice drop ALPs. Reminds me of my baby:( Shes in the shop for another 10 days!! I had gotten the drop on like 2 days before i had to take it in so i only could enjoy it for like 1 day. Mine i think is lower because i gots h&R cut cup springs instead of H&r sport springs. I had rubbbing while turning too. and sometimes in the back fenders.:(

I think he's say'in it rubs in the front when he make turns. That's why I was ask'in his front tire size. Maybe too wide... ;)

jre

as it is settling, it has started rubbing a little on the front when making sharp turns, even with 5 people in the car, its only slight!

anyhow, i think my gear box has packed up, trying to arrange the car to get towed to a garage 50 miles away!

this aint gonna be cheap!
