Ya know...
- I thought my suspension was shot ... I was getting horrible (right rear) wheel hop on take-off... I mean =BAD= hop.
- I thought my steering box was "going", as I heard and felt a real bad clunk clunk clunk through the steering wheel if I'd have to brake on top of big bumps or train tracks...
- the car was pulling hard, usually to the right but not always...
- I was getting a violent shake in the car between 60 - 70mph
Before my car's engine swap was done I took a ride in coolcarlskic43's car ... it felt =solid= over bumps, like mine used to, but it had been so long that I'd forgotten it can/should feel like that.
The new engine went in with E55 motor mounts and guess what ... Yes, all those symptoms are GONE!

Thanks for the info. My car is doing many of the things you describe. You mentioned that the E55 mounts are a litttle stiffer does that seem true?

According to a few of the guys there the night of the swap, they look the same but internally are a bit beefier (and about $30 more). I don't know how to gauge if they are compared to new stock C43 ones though. I'll just take their word for it that they are indeed beefier.
do u have part #? I'm in the middle of doing my fron suspension and sice the car will be in the air i thought I'd do mounts as well. Whats involved? U just install these from the bottom right?

well I finally got to drive it on the roads I drive to/from work where I'd get the shakes ... it's not totally gone, because some of the rims are bent. However that no longer sets up some sort of harmonic resonance in the car with the new mounts in. The shake is =very= subtle now.

I learned that the C43 and E55 motor mounts are the same, but there was a switch to another p/n which is only for the E55 (dont forget they discountiued the C43 in 2000). You determine the p/n byt the vin# of the E55.
I'm curious to see why/what is different between the two mounts. I looked under my car and it was pointed out that my motor mounts were blown, so I am guessing a new set will stiffen things up down there regardless if the part is C43/E55 or just E55.

ve-lllly eeen-tell-esting...
I can't attest (sp?) to the E55 ones being beefier, can only repeat what the guys who work @ MB said. They look the same externally but are a little "beefier" internally, and cost about $30 more.
...MB would never take advantage of its customers now would they ...? ;)
Yes, I can surely attest to the fact that no matter which # then, it'll help a lot. It sure did for me.
