very nice. I see a lot of math on the masking tape... measure 2 billion times, drill once ;)
Any chance of a DIY post on removing the headliner. I know this may be useful to a lot of members here.

lol.. yeh, I worked it out twice and drew some lines and marked holes.. then I decided to just measure again to make sure it was centred.. good thing I did, casue I was off a lil!!.. but the most time consuming part was getting the holes centred on the roof.
as for a DIY on headliner removal.. I can do one.. but I never took any pics when I was removing it.. so when I reinstall it I can take some pics then. just have to put the pics in reverse order so its coming out and not going in!!

This antenna is only for GPS and phone.. I dont think that there is an antenna available that looks like this and is for radio.. the only other option is a fuba roof antenna for radio reception. (vw style roof antenna)
I got the antenna from Steve (mbenznl) and it was $100 u.s. I believe.
it wasnt very hard to do the mod.. just very time consuming.. took me a total of 4 hours from start to finish.. 1 hour of that was removing the headliner... the rest was measuring.. and measuring.. and measuring!!

I dont think it will plug into your N1.. the plug for the GPS antenna wire is different then a normal antenna plug.
I have not seen the back of an N1 mind you.. but Im just guesing it may not work.
the OEM GPS antenna wire plugs into the back of the comand.. I will try and take a pic of the back of my comand and the antenna wire connection too.

I dont think there is a proprietary GPS antenna in there, the connection MAY be different, but the signal should be the same.... I think integrating it to an aftermarket GPS reciever is just a matter of isolating the two connectors, and soldering on the proper connector.
Take care,
George

Yeah thats just a standard coaxial cable....
Just find the proper fitting to go into the Pioneer unit, solder it onto the end of that cable, and you will be good.
Now, anyone know where the connection to that antenna is in a 00 w202 that has it on the roof already?
Take care,
George

I didnt see anything behind the head, but I wasnt particularly looking either. If you do find that end, please let me know, As I would like to use it at some point as well.
Take care,
George
What have you done to prevent rusting?

I had noticed that, I was wondering if you added any additional seals?

oh.. well there is a seal on the bottom of the antenna.. its rubber.. but I did put some caulking (clear) around the perimeter of the seal before I stuck it down.
