Hey guys I have a question about the stereo.

I want to get one of those flip up DVD player/Nav./CD/Radio systems. And in my dad's 280(soon to be mine) we have the stock radio with a 6 cd changer in the trunk.

So If I DO get one of those systems does our CD Changer have to be taken out? Or it would work with the new system?

Just asking.... I won't get into thise kinda of stuff yet. I'll do it when I have the money to.

Thanks.

The CD changer will not work anymore w/ an aftermarket stereo. IT's optic fiber cable based.

Not for his 1997 model.

To the OP. You may want to call up crutchfield or similar and ask this question to them.

I'm not ready to change the system yet. I just want an idea of if it will work or not work..

So, does this mean that the CD Changer will NOT work?

Sorry, I'm only 16 and i dont know much about this stuff... and what is OP???

Thanks.

If your dad's car is a C280 then it has the bose system with the integrated amp.

If you install an aftermarket headunit you will have to bypass the stock amp and run your own speaker wires or you will have to install your own amp and and tap into to the speaker wires in the trunk going to the amp.

The amp is located behind the trunk panel on the left side.

I have a burned out so I just opted to chuck mine and install a full custom system.

5 channel amp
12 inch sub
replaced all the speaker with 4 ohm (the bose uses 2ohm)
12 disk changer
cd Mp3 head unit.

The bose head unit uses 8 very small wires to take the signal to the amp and of the wires can be found in the giant plug that goes into the bottom of the of the amp. If you want you can use line level converters to connect the small wires to the amp you will install.

I know it sounds confusing but there are a few webpages that can help you understand car installations. I found out all of this by experimenting.

smartkey: if you search the website you will find that there is an adapter that you can purchase to allow an aftermarket radio to work with the stock bose system and you will not need to as you posted run your own speaker wire.

That's good news but when I was looking to upgrade my stero back in 2001 I did not know such an animal existed.

my stock amp was burned out any way.

So I just ran some patch cables from my new head unit to the aftermarket amp that I cleverly mounted in the stock amp location and used the existing turn-on lead and speaker wires.

No biggy to me.

clever indeed

what did you use for replacement speakers? did you have to make custom mounts?

You don't have to change all the speakers if you get an amp that is 2 ohm stable.

It has been a while bit this is what I have installed and their locations.

Dash= Kenwood component tweeter (from a component set w/crossovers for woofer and tweeter)

Front doors= custom cut down Kenwood XR dual magnet 5.25 inch speaker.

Rear doors= kicker RSC3 3.5inch speakers

Rear Deck= Kenwood XR 600 dual magnet coaxial speaker 6.5 speaker.

The sub is mounted in the trunk in a ported"truck box" up again the rear seat. The sub is a 12inch Kenwood KFC 1205

All this crap is power by a Sony Xplod 5 channel that they don't make anymore (when the Xplod crap out I will use an Alpine MRV 450 5 channel)
