my friend messed w/ my radio and now it's locked w/ message "c-err 1"

how do i bypass this?

the best you can do is reset it by disconnecting the battery. if that works, you will be asked to enter the radio code, if it still shows the same error message, then all you can do is take it to the dealer and have them take a look at it.

i disconnected the battery but it's still showing the message c-err

i checked the manual and it says i need to leave it in the on position for 24 hours before it restarts

does anyone else know of any other method?

damn, 24hrs! if thats what the manual says, than thats it.
BMW only takes 1hr to reset, not 24hrs.

and it doesn't unlock!!!

and so the next thing i do is try taking it to a dealer and they can do nothing for me except give me a radio code which i already have and then proceed to tell me the radio has to be taken apart and looked at...hmmm....i don't know about that...there has to be a simple way to unlock this madness!

the only thing I can think of is try jumping the power supplies, both constant and switched, to a ground, but with the head unit out and unplugged. I dont know if this will help or not, but its worth trying.
