sorry for asking here but there isn't any good w210 forum anywhere.
Anyways my 96' e320 is simply not blowing cold enough air.
when im on the freeway going at steady speed the a/c is pretty cold not as cold as my C though.
temp says 57 deg F. some here on the board said thats as low as the climate control will get for w210.
what do you think i need to change?
thank you guys

a/c is a crapshoot to diagnose without having the car.. but first of all get a thermometer and put it in the vent and with tthe a/c on take a reading... it should be somewhere around 8-12 degrees celcius (not sure what in ferenheit)
if youre close to that.. you have no problems.. if you arent.. you could have a freon leak somewhere.. the easiest thing to do is to recover the freon and install a/c dye.. run the car with the a/c on for a week and then have it checked for leaks.
common area for leaks are usually the switches at the reciever drier.. but it could also be a line somewhere.

as slammed said, its hard to guess whats wrong with the ac unless we have the car and test it. but as he said, its probably a low freon case, but as long as you still have some freon in the system, you dont need to recover the system to add the UV dye, just hook up the low line and charge with dye(freon with dye would be the best "over the counter" product to use which you can get at any parts store), then after a day or less, the dye should already indicate leaks, if any. the other common problems could be auxiliary fans not turning on with the ac, thus ac not cooling enough at low RPM's, and a stuck open duo valve, which lets hot coolant flow through the heater thus warming the cold air passing through the evaporator.
the temp of air should be around 50F at around 1500 RPM, and colder as RPM's increase.

Thank you guys.
As far as freon when i bought the car it was totally out of freon and had it charge there is no leak whatsoever.
Interesting note that you have on duo valve maybe thats the problem.
Can you elaborate on that as to how should have that check
or replace..
thank you

as far as I know, there are 2 possible ways to check:
1) A/C control unit's self diagnostic feature which tests all electrical components of the HVAC system. I dont know the exact procedure for the W210, hopefully someone else can help out(slammed, benzaddict, anyone?)
2) with the ac on(not heating), loosen the clamp on one of the lines leading out of the duovalve, and if coolant leaks from them, the duovalve is stuck open and is the probable cause of your problem.
if you dont know where the duovalve is located and how it looks like, its located next to the computer compartment on the rear pass. side of engine compartment, and you will see a coolant line going into it and 2 lines going out of it. It looks like it has 2 towers on top of it.
