W202 Non-Bose to add sub and amp

Recently I helped a freind hook up a sub and amp in his 01 Audi A4 non-bose system. Looked fairly easy.....the rear deck had 2 6.5" speakers and one had a small amp attached to it as part of the stock system. We unplugged the wires to it and traced the remote turn-on which would be for the amp.

Looking under the back panel of a W202 99 C230K with no BOSE, it has a wiring loom going to one of the speakers under there. Would I do the same procedure to adding a 12inch sub and amp on this system?

If your amp has a high level input you can just tap into the wires going to one or both of the rear speakers. No need to disconnect the speakers though. If it does not have high level inputs you can buy a line level converter (i think it's called) and connect that to the rear speaker wires, and then to your amp.

As for the turn on lead, I think there might be an amp back there somewhere, try doing a search on that. If you had a pre-'98 car you could tap into the turn on lead for the telescoping antenna. Am I correct in thinking '98+ don't have one?

Yup no telescopic antenna after 1998. Sounds easy enough as my amp does have those inputs.

what kind of amp? some, like MTX, can sense a sinal through the high level inputs and use that as a turn-on.

I never trusted the auto turn-off feature when I had my Infinity Basslink. I've had so many battery issues I don't like to take chances. I think I've had 3 or 4 different MB batteries in my car in the last year. They keep replacing the defective batteries for free, so hey, I let 'em.

That's my little rant for the day, I'll shut up now.

I have a basslink and it seems fine. It does stay powered up for a little while after the car is off, but isn't that just the capacitor(s) retaining charge?

My home sub does the same thing...

I just bought a 2000 C230K. It has the non-bose system.

I see 2 speakers under the rear panel. What size are they? They look very small to me and look like some type of special woofers.

There is a remote turn on wire going to one of these speakers?
