Anybody knows what kind of OEM cd changer comes with the earlier model w202's? I thought I've seen alpines on some cars that i test drove before i bought mine. The one I bought didnt come with a changer, and I come across an alpine cd changer.
Another question is, is this car prewired for a cd changer? I've looked in the trunk area for a conector but didnt see one.
any comment would be appreciated !!

I am throwing a guess out their, but I am pretty sure they are not made my alpine and all w202s come prewired, but you need a fiber optic cd changer, which sell for a few hundred $.

The Mecedes ones were indeed Alpine. My car was missing the cassette when I bought it. I bought a replacement at a car stereo shop and it was an Alpine part. The CD changer also says Alpine on the back of it (MB on the front). The earlier ones were not fiber optic. I can't remember what year they made that switch. Look for the connector in the right hand side well in the trunk. That's where the player mounts.

From your name I am guessing you have a 94. If so your car is not fiber optic. That started in 99. Yes, you can use an alpine changer.

The OEM changer was an Alpine, but not identical to an Alpine. To use an Alpine, you will need a cable to convert from the round DIN connector the Alpine uses to the square connector MB uses. It should be pretty easy to find.

You'll have to remove the right side trunk panel to find the cable. It'll be a large-ish black cable with a rectangular plug.

The cable is located under the carpet mold on the right side of the trunk. Its across the support bar that has the battery on the other side, and has a vent on the bottem. Its a good length and will allow you to mount the cd changer with room to spare. Hope this helps. My 95 has this cable
