hey 202ers,
so i decided to debadge my C220 emblem today and guess what...there was Stain!

I debadged the letter C and there was like this rust like color outline...tried to wax it off but its still the same... car is a '95

I was thinking of putting the letter C back on but I really want to debadge it....what do you use to put it back on?

Cheers!

would be easier to buy a new badge then to use your old one. Shouldn't be more then $10 from the dealer

I don't know how bad the stain is but, try using Meguiar's Scratch-X to rub out the stain.

http://www.meguiars.com/estore/product_detailpage.cfm?product=ScratchX&sku=G10307

From web site: " ScratchX removes light surface contaminants, oxidation and blemishes while it enhances paint color and clarity"

Works wonders and should not damage the paint. I have used it on many cars and always had good results.

You can also try using a fine grit rubbing compound.

Hey 202ers
thanks for the replies...what do you need to use the rubbing compound with?? you don't need a buffer do you...

And if it still doesn't work...i think i will rebadge it...one more thing, what do you guys reccommend me to use to rebadge it without ruining the paintjob??

Cheers!!

just use a soft clean rag to apply.....another one to clean with.
the same way you would hand wax a car.

plus...most of these products have detailed instructions for proper use.

I use glue remover, such as acetone, or you can buy a industrial grade glue remover at paint stores, but make sure its clear coat safe.

hey all,
bummer... fine grit rubbing compound ate my paint away...so there's small chips on it :(

Thinking of putting it back on and wait till just b4 painting to debadge it....i think i'll try debadging the frnt emblem now...

do any of you guys think that the emblem kit off ebay is good? or do i have to buy it from a dealer?

Cheers All!!

i heard from my mechanic saying that the 94 95' W202's have paint problems.. that means that on rainy days, if you look carefully on some part of the paints you see a "white" rain stain on the car and it eventually goes out after a few minutes. ( but you can't rub it off )

i dont know if this debadging is the same too though, i debaged mine and it had stain left on. i even went to the mechanic and he said the only way is the repay that area.. but why waste money? so this was wat i built yesterday..

You used fine grit rubbing compound to try and get that little stain off? OMG
i took myne off a 94 and it came off with the same outline stuff you described, but i just used hot water+normal detergant and rubbed with a rag for ages and it came off,
grit rubbing compound is far to harsh for paint its like liquid sandpaper! i presumed you must have given it a fair bit of rubbing to stuf your paint?
