I stumbled upon this while researching what manual transmissions I could use (thinking of Tremec TKO or a Richmond). Visit here :
http://www.richmondgear.com/01cartest.html
and download Patrick Glenn's CarTest 4.5 for DOS .

It has =all= necessary parameters to analyze performance for our C-classes built right in!

One thing I did notice though, it doesn't account for driveline losses adequately. Example:

I took the defaults for the '98 C43, and it said the C43 was doing 0 - 60 in 5.5 seconds. ...no way.

I then realized, I didn't take into account driver's weight, + weight of junk in the car. Adding that, I got to 5.8 seconds 0 - 60. That makes more sense, but honestly, still too quick. Leading me to surmise it's over optimistic (under-estimating) driveline losses from the tranni, weight of the wheels, loss due to intake/exhaust restrictions, intake heat, whatever.

...HOWEVER, aside from that, which can be tweaked to dial-in an accurate baseline ... once tweaked this program provides an incredible VISUAL analysis of how altering things such as transmission ratios, power and torque curves, etc., affect performance.

YA!

You can't imagine how long and hard I've been looking for a program like this ... that's free ... and here it is! I'm so happy, I think I'll pick up CarTest2000 for $35.

all, I've been using this program -- the updated CarTest2000 that is -- the last few days, and all I can say is "wow". At $35, what a bargin.

Parameter Sensitivity Analysis is really, really kewl.
