View Full Version : Rear spoiler question for all you 202 modi-holics

I am in a middle of a "modding" predicament.
IMO, the rear of a 202's is so perfectly designed that it doesn't need a spoiler to complement its shape. However, a good looking spoiler does provide some touch of sportiness & aggresiveness (and much needed downforce) to a car.

So my question is: should I get a spoiler for my 202??
I have always believed that the only spoiler serves a 202 justice is the AMG C36 spoiler. Its classic design has made it the most popular choice of rear spoiler among the W202 modi-holics. AMG spoiler looks awesame on a 202 but I am not sure if it would fit well with my Lorinser exterior look. I have other options of course, such as Lorinser, Zender, or Opera but they aren't exactly my brand of Vodka.

I have heard many different opinions. Some say I should go with the AMG spoiler, some say I should go with the Lorinser and some say I shouldn't get a spoiler at all. So ya, I am really confused rite now. I am wondering what you guys think about this. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated

I agree that the AMG is the only wing for the W202, but I'm not too sure it will look good with the Lorinser kit. I would really explore your options before going ahead and purchasing.

Maybe a member could photoshop this for you?

Get the AMG spoiler and your car would look really sick... ;) :)

P.S.
Did you get my email?

Add the new style AMG lip spoilers... those are still subtle yet add some distinct flavor.

I thought the AMG W202 spoiler was always the same? Or is the new one more curved?

Benci: let's get CF ones made... we'll pick up a cheap replica, take it to Genesis composites, he'll make a mold, and we get full CF AMG-style spoilers... just paint the top part body color, leave the bottom part CF, and I think it'll look awesome with your kit and existing CF doorsills. Let me know if you're in.

btw, this way we can see if that Genesis Composites guy is any good, before we do bigger items like hoods

Willpwr: That is certainly a good idea. I think the finishing product will look awesame. But how much will the CF spoiler cost??
Anywaz, I am still deciding whether I should buy a spoiler or not. I don't know if the AMG spoiler matches with the Lorinser bodykit. :(

Benci: well, IMO the Lorinser spoiler doesn't look good on a Lorinser kit, so you might as well get the one that looks best on the 202, which is either the AMG or the lip spoiler JRE has, depending on your tastes. Front end excluded, the Lorinser kit is very basically a C36 kit with extra holes in the rear bumper and side skirts... in fact, comparing the C36 sideskirts to the Lorinser replicas I got, the shape is almost identical. So matching up an AMG wing shouldn't look too alien on a Lorinser body.

As for the CF spoiler, this is just a guesstimate, but prolly around $300CDN not including the mold. The mold would be based on a $150CDN AMG replica, which we could always sell later on. I remember Ryan had a contact at Worksport with a CF AMG replica, but it was the brownish-colored CF, and would look kinda wierd with the existing grey CF accents. That one was asking $200, cuz it was the last one in stock.

Alps: sorry I don't have a pic, but it's basically your average 2-post spoiler, with the width being narrower than most, to match with the lines of the tailights. Dunno if that helps. Try checking Kameraguy's pic in the member's gallery... i think he's got one.

IMO that looks nothing like the M3 spoiler, but I'm thinking of the E36 BMW Motorsports one... that lip spoiler you got is kinda neat... which brand/manufacturer is it?

btw, noticed that you're in the Vancouver area, so keep an eye out on the events and gatherings section and join us at our next meet. ... what else have you done to your car?

It's a M3 look alike spoiler, not exactly made by BMW for BMW's only.

I bought it on Ebay from a company called Sabersport for $50US.

I've got clear corners, avantgrill, 5spoke AMG, tint job, 6000K HIDs. I will be upgrading my ECU to Upsolute soon, Remus Muffler, and getting a full suspension. Oh ya, i mated a sub and amp onto my stock stereo.
