Anyone got a rear stiffening? It looks like a rubber placed underneath the springs. I'm not sure if I got it on my car...  ;) Wondering if this bracing or stiffening piece would help in handling, ride or height of the car.. ;)

I saw this piece on the manual. It goes underneath the rear spring and it shape like a cone. They call it stiffener or bracing,

Screen capture? I tried to copy so I can just paste it but it won't let me instead it enlarge the image. So do you have one in your car? Coz I don't recall seeing that piece in my rear suspension.
Cost around $13.50 at stealership less 15% w/c get all time at autobahn. ;) :)

quite possibly... the 9 becomes a 6, the 8 stays an 8, and the 5 becomes an "S", which stands for "spring" :D

EDIT: oops, I guess the 5 would become a 2

Looks like the consensus is that none of us have this on our cars. However, from it's location, I doubt that it would have a big affect on your handling characteristics other than increasing your ride height, or possibly preventing the spring from going off it's axis (yep, talking out of my ass for that one). Perhaps it's kind of like a rubber washer for the lower part of the suspension?

In any case, if you're looking to improve handling, might as well go for some different rate springs, different dampers, sway bars...the usual stuff.

I thought we could use this to stiffen the rear springs in our rides :( I guess not really of any help... :bored: :(

That piece would only raise the car. To stiffen the spring you can use a spring pad and grind out the end stop where the spring end would butt into.

If you jack up your car you can then slide this pad between the spring coils and zip tie it into place.

What is does, by having a spacer between the coils is that when the spring compresses it bumps into the spring pad and this causes those two coils to go dead, thus leaving less coils to support the load. Less active coils means a stiffer spring.
