View Full Version : Kompressor trouble please help!!!

After just having my C230K sedan for a week, the supercharger is acting up.

It is working intermittantly (not all the time). When the car is turned on in the mornings it makes strange noises which I was told is normal and the kompressor is spinning. Aswell when revving the engine up, it does kick in and spool up.

Now when driving its a different story. When you floor it from one stoplight it may or may not create the boost and give you that "kick".....if it doesnt it reaches redline slower than normal and basically is normally aspirated like a non kompressor 230.

Once you pull over and restart it will work for the first few times then not work anymore.

I thought it would be a possible MAS sensor but no check engine light is on or hesitation from the engine. So something is telling it the S/C not to come on....if the S/C was cooked then I dont think it would ever come on.

Where should I start looking? I dont race the car but I still want everything to work as should.

In another forum one person posted a very similar problem on his SLK230K and solved it by doing this:


took out the "Relay Module" box. Mostly all of the relays are contained in this box and soldered to a circuit board. Then I had to open it up and find were the K40 Relay was on the circuit board. Wasn't hard to find because there were two BAD solder joints for the K40. I re-soldered the connections and I haven't had a problem since.

Please help.

this is something that is coming up ALOT. its been happening to me for the past 4 months.. but I just deal with it.. it is becoming a problem merging onto freeway onramps tho lol..

I was also thinking its the maf. or some type of sensor.. I bet its a real serious problem but people that have these cars dont tend to drive them as rough as us.

id like if someone found out why this is happening..becuzz no way I am paying for it to be fixed someplace

get it scanned, even if the CEL in off. my guess, could be a weak electromagnet on the clutch, interrupted power supply to the clutch or a lean AF mixture.

The problem is intermittant now. And when it does give the boost, after 3000rpm its stuttering and hesitates aswell no check engine light is on.

Have to look into it now ASAP.

Had the codes read. It read error 1 of 1 Air valve wastegate malfunction.


This is known as that device attached to the air filter box and is a silver color. Its the air flap valve which opens and closes. The dealer wants $687 for it!!!!! No way.

I need to still confirm if this is 100% the problem.

Did you ever get this fixed or find what the problems were? I have a similar problem however, when i open the throttle half way the SC kicks in...but when i floor it...the SC doesn't kick...Don't know what the heck is wrong...I had to replace my MAF sensor do to check engine light so that wouldn't be the problem of the SC...

I think I'll try taking the relay out to see if any soddering is disconnected as what you had mentioned...

Hi,

Sorry I didnt update this but it was the MAS sensor in the end.

It came to the point where the values werent good enough and triggered the check engine. I then got the code for the MAS and replaced it....car has full power now.

Thanx for your response buddy...I recently changed my MAF and still can't feel the SC..Only when i open the throttle half way...weird. Can you believe that little plastic piece cost $300?

Anyhow have a good one :cool:

Isnt that when it kicks in at almost halfway throttle? Do you feel the pull and hear it whining? On know when on the highway I have to put the pedal half-way and then I get the boost.

filled my gas up today and decided to take it out on a run to see if my SC would kick in...I punched as if I was drag racing...guess what? SC came alive! It was beautiful. Maybe all this time I just didn't punch it hard enough...I guess I'm light footed on the gas... Now I can drive happily... I just love this car... has a little muscle and handsome as can be....
