has this happen to anyone? i was surprised when i saw it...the thermostat broke into pieces..glad that nothing fell inside the cooling system...

I have seen the exact same thing happen in my VW. Pretty scary stuff. Was your car overheating?

my car was running hot....went all the way up to 115 degrees on the gauge...which is 5 degrees short of the red-zone...so i figured, flush the coolant and then replace the thermostat...guess that was the culprit...my car still runs at around 100 degrees in traffic on a 95degree heat...guess thats normal...

damn, thats weird.
my car's running at 110 in traffic, 90 on the freeway. i think it's my fan clutch, but gonna change the thrmo too
check your fan clutch
