Hey 202ers,
Can somebody who has had the headlight lens changed on their pre-97 car help me with this...
Do I need to take the whole headlight unit out to change the lens only??
I've been trying to find another screw to the headlight (the one beside the radiator) but I couldn't get access to it... :(
I've read nokia's post on the instructions to change it but its only for the 97 above model...
Please Help and thanks for reading!
Cheers!

I tried to go this route with the one that broke on my 1995 C 280. The lens is replaceable by itself, but you have to find a lens only. They don't sell it (just a lens) for the pre 97 models, you have to buy the whole assembly. You will have to pretty much completely remove it in order to replace the lens.

hey davis,
thanks for replying...I already have a replacement lens that comes with a grey bracket...is that the one you're talking about?
Cheers!

If you're sure you have the right replacement lens, yes you can replace it. But you DO have to remove the entire headlight to replace the lens. It's not that hard. But it is needlessly complicated.
Remove the blinker (entire fixture). Reach in behind with the hood open and press the plastic flaps together and push out on the blinker and it will pop out. You can just leave it hanging. This exposes another little screw holding the headlight on. Remove it.
Remove the protective grill over the aux. fans. Use a philips screwdriver to turn the 2 square-looking screws on top just one 90-degree turn and pop them out. Those are the only screws holding this grille in. It just pops out on the bottom. This should grant access to another screw on the side of the headlight. Remove it.
Finally, remove the screw on the very top (this one is a very long screw) holding the headlight in place.
Reach in behind the headlight and give her a few pushes and taps and she should fall free.
The lens is attached to the reflector housing by a series of simple plastic snaps that must be gently pried up and the lens pulled away. For some reason, mine had a single philips screw on the bottom of the headlight that I had to remove before the lens could come off. This screw was also filled with super glue or something that I had to pick out before I could turn it.
Post if you have any troubles.

hey sulaco....thanks for the explanation :)
but actually I'm quite stuck at the screw near the radiator side....i've removed the grill protector but there is actually one more thing (panel) that doesn't give any access to the last piece of screw....that panel is screwed down by like a round piece of screw which doesn't have any points on its head (neither phillips or flatheat)...sorry for the complicated question ...i'll try it again today and if i still couldn't, i'll post a pic where the troubles at.
Cheers!!

Ahh, I just double checked to see what you were talking about. That screw IS hard to reach. I used a tiny ratch and socket to reach it. Loosened it up just enough to start using my fingers the rest of the way. I forget what size it is, though. Same size as the other 2.
