Found this button seperate to the housing, there is a part number on this button but the button is made up of three parts, the button, the plastic button has a surround and a grey plug at the bottom which is screwed on. The part number is printed onto the buttons plastic surround but it might be for the whole three pieces that make the one button.

Here is it: 210 820 69 10

I will install this button in the next couple of days and see if it works!

It's your trunk ( boot ) opener.
You do not PUSH on this button.
If you want to open the trunk, you PULL up the front of the switch. ;)

Hey Manny,

Alright nice. I will try and get some small pliers onto the button and see if it releases the boot. If that does not work, does anyone have the part number for the boot release button so I can get that and put it in?

Thanks,

TWO WORDS... Owners manual.

If you don't have one, buy one from e-bay or dealership.

How do I check the vacuum line? I am guessing that is the thick black pipe running up into the top of the trunk?

And yes tinter I have the manuals but unfortunately it only tells me what the function of the factory button that is in that position, I thought someone may have retrofitted the button in as it had a button in there that wasn't the same as the electric window buttons and looked like it was from a 190 e or something. So I was a bit puzzled as to why the original button was removed and replaced with an "older" button.

Either way, I tried to pull on the button and it doesn't want to come up.

I was wondering how does the original button actually pull the little button up as I can't seem to do it with a pair of thin pliers.

So does anyone have the part number for the boot release button?

Thanks.

Aftermarket button? That's why. OEM button in that position is
shaped so that you can easily pull up on the front of the button.
Your button I wouldn't try this, it's obviously not OEM. I would
probably run it over to a stereo shop and have someone take a look at it. Good luck.

Yeah it is definately a w201 electric window button that is in there at the moment heh.

I don't suppose anyone knows where I can grab one of the original boot release buttons? Or have the part number so I can order one from the dealership?

Thanks.

I went to a dealership and found out about the button.

Supposedly the button cannot be ordered seperately from the centre console. So for me to get that button from the dealership it will cost $600 US as I will have to buy an entire new gear surround frame with the mirror adjuster and two electric window switches.

I called a few dealerships and they all say the same thing.

Any ideas about what I should do? As I am definately not going to spend the $600 on a new surround.

hey yeah tried some wreckers all still pretty expensive, expensive just for the boot button anyway. I bought one of these off ebay recently so will see if it works when it comes!
