Newbie - Aircon & switches not working

Tried search function but can't find what I'm looking for.

Basically I'm new to Mercs, just bought a W202. Only issue I have is the 4 switches in centre console between the 2 fan dials, don't seem to do anything.

When you push them are they supposed to light up red??

In addition I can't get aircon to work, I think it's something to do with these switches not working. Looked in fusebox, all fuses seem fine except 2 are missing, one of which is for auxiliary fan, is this why aircon & switches don't work??? If I put a fuse in will they then work?

On second thoughts, they are huge fuses, does that mean they are actually relays?

are you talking about the foru switches on the console or the A/C unit?? if you'r a/c don't turn one then check the a/c climate control unit, might be bad especially if the buttons don't do anything.

When you push them are they supposed to light up red?? the only two buttons that light up red on my 97 c280 are the 2 large ones on the sides, they have a red dot, one button is for AUTO and the other is for RECYCLE.
