What would cause the alarm lights not to flash? I have read a few things and it seems that this will happen if a door or trunk is open and you try to lock your car, but what about when you know for sure that all of your doors and trunk are physically closed?

This being said, the dome lights will stay on, and that will drain your battery. If you press the door-light button so that your lights do not turn on when you open your door will this drain the battery? I see no other source that can, but I do not know for sure.

What else could cause this problem? Btw, this only happens when trying to lock the car, opening the car still makes the lights flash once. Thanks.

If the dome lights stay on, that would indicate to me that a door sensor has failed. Thus the alarm system would still think that a door was still open. I would start with the driver's door first, as this is the most likely one to fail.

thanks for the reply, and views. we managed to get it to work. don't really know what it was. we think it might have been something with the driver pin as there are three wires at this one and only two at the others.

is it diffcult to add the mercedes alarm to a mercedes that does not have one already, does anyone know if it does something other than make sound i.e. shut down parts of the car so it cannot be stolen...

that would be pointless because anyone breaking in will just be able to get around that
