I was also looking at those. The quality of the product worries me though. I am curious if anybody has used this product or knows of somebody that has.

It is better to get the complete system that bekkers.com sells. The standard reflector can not correctly shape the xenon light thus scattering light everywhere but the road. Not to mention it blinds other ppl.

I will try to dig up the write up I had on these. There is a very big difference in using these retro fit kits vrs. the oem setup. I believe bekkers is selling them for around 850.

It's a cheap way to get Xenon, but if you want better lighting, then you should go with a more real deal IMO...

Until I buy the MB OEM XENON, I just adjusted the highbeam to the same level of the regular driving lights. Moreover, I use a PIAA's "xenon wannabe" set on the driving lights.. When you turn on both, the result surprisingly great... very bright with blue accent. :)

Of course, I dont have any high beam now!

Hi !

Do you note this kit is an H4 replacement, which year is your car, because I know on my 97', they are not H4 bulbs....

Frenchy.

Frenchy,
My car is a 1995 C36. I think the bulbs might be different between 1995 and 1996/1997 W202.

I have an 8000K kit on my car from another no-name brand. Here are the common problems that people talk about:
1. Error light on for HID lights - my kit does not trigger the error light, thus my car easily adjuster to the difference. Plug and Play.
2. Light pattern too scattered - My kit was tested and the light patter in my reflector lenses is perfect. It does not blind people.
3. Modification of housing - My kit was designed to go into the car with little to no hassle, those who have seen it, kow it looks close to oem set up with no extra wires or any other unsightly mess.

Pros:

For the money you get an awesome light, much more powerful that your stock Hologens and a little more powerful than stock OEM HID. We compared Hank's OEM 4150k kit vs my 8000K kit and mine was a lot brighter with a more concentrated beam patter.

You get hassle free work, mine had been in the car for over a year with no problems, warning lights or any other trouble.

You get a color that is trully unique. The 8000K kit looks almost deep purple, like the Audi kits and will give the Benz a more unique color lighting.

I think for the money, you are better off buying this kit than, in many ways inferior, OEM kit or Bekkers kit. just my .02

But thats for a R170. The reflectors on the 202 are more ancient and can not handle the xenon correctly. You will get xenon lights yes, you will blind people yes, it is cheaper yes. The bekkers unit is designed for them by bosch as a retrofit alternative to the oem at a fraction of the cost. OEM is around 1200USD a side MINUS ballast. Bekker is around 900 complete. The light pattern is truely different on the 202.

But is the Bekker HID going to be brighter than this 8000K kit??

Remember higher the number the less usable light it puts out on the road. The best is the 4000k ones. While it doesnt give a blue, green, purple effect it is white and it lays down the light so you can see at night. And that ofcourse is the ultimate goal of lighting upgrade. Seeing better at night.

I think we are now confusing Kalvin rating and Candlepower outputs. While you are right about the various shades of light being attributed to various Kalvin outputs and thus providing different light hues, it is also tru that the 8000K system light a road further than the 4000K system.

At a 3.5 foot elevation, in proper housing the 4000K system put out 125-150feet of usable light, while 8000K puts out 200-225 feet of usable light, thus the higher Kalvins also contribute to longer illumination, deeper light penetration. Plus because of all the extra stray light of the 8000k kit, the reflective road signs are more clearly visible and thus increasing the safety aspect which I am sure all the enthusiasts would appreciate. ;)

Going upwards from 4100K means that your lights turn blue at the expense of total brightness and yellow colour. theoretically if the same brightness were to be kept you would have to increase the wattage of the bulb from 35 to 40W and redesign the ballast. This would be costly and probably not pratical int he automotive world and that is why much of the automotive hid are 35W.

Of course you could always say the 5000,6000,8000 etc bulbs look cooler. But nothing is really better than a 4100K. Dont believe the hype.

Keep in mind I do agree that the coloured hid are cool however do not confuse glare with brightness.

Also take it with a grain of salt what you read on sites that sell HID. Remember they are the biggest supporter of higher kelvin the brighter it is. This is simply not true. You must increase the wattage of the bulb to get it brighter. You increase the kelvin rating to change the colour.

In Europe the W202 headlights were upgraded in 1996...in the states probably a little later.
The euro spec 1993-1996 had headlights with 2 separate low and high beam bulbs where as the inferior US spec headlights had the dual filiament bulb for low and high beam.

The only way to go xenon is the OEM way...

The first actual MOD my father asked me to get him for "my mom's" SLK230  after she already asked me about a homelink... ...I wonder where this will end with them :D .

We need more euro gtg's here at our place so they will get into the modding scene as well  .

greetingz,

I seem to recall that your father inquired you for some other parts as well - was it AMG-package, or does my mind play hide and seek with me???

Whats the difference between US Xenon housing for the R170 and Euro Xenon housing for the R170?? I have a US HID ready, xenon housing for my HIDs... is there a beam patter difference?
