power seat question [Archive]

my power seat used to work when the door was open without the key in.. now it doesnt. it only works when the key is in and turned onto position 1, 2 or when the car is on. any leads?

I had the same problem. Check to make sure the door pin switch isn't broken off like mine was.

Does your internal roof light work when you open the drivers door?

The part is around $6 if you buy it online.
I'll see if I can find a part number for it.

It takes about 5 minutes to replace.

EDIT: P/N is 202 820 21 10 and 202 820 90 10 depending on year.

have a look at this wiring diagram and see if you can figure out wher your problem is, most probebly a relay or fuse
at a guess it could be fuse number 2 (7.5amp) in the fuse box in the boot :confused:

I have a similar but weirder variation on the problem. Sometimes it doesn't work; sometimes it does. On occation, I'm lucky to experience the rare behaviour where it "kind'a" works ... say, I move the seat back, then I stop for a second but decide I'd like to move it back another inch or two ... however it then doesn't work anymore until I put in the key. :confused: Gremlinz!

edit: btw, what rims are those in your sig? ;)

yeah my chairs seem to do the same thing, they will go front and back, but would refuse to go up and down for example...but when i put the key in it works better
