Hey everyone,

Getting ready to do my first oil change on my "new" 99 C230k and didnt check the manual yet but it requires Mobil 0W-40 im told? Aswell how many litres and can I use a topsider oil "sucker" on this car?

FSS light has not come on yet and Im not confident enough to wait for it although the last oil change was done at the dealer a yr ago at around 6000kms ago. Do I need to reset the FSS and how?

Thanks

Hi,

for this kind of engine it has been suggested me to utilize 10W40 oil (as Mobil Super S, available here in heurope), full synthetic oil may be also a better choice but this is not a new engine so I prefer a semi synthetic one. In any case is better you know the type utilized since now.

As far as the oil sump capacity mine require about 5.8 liters but it's a 1998cc engine. About the topsider I kindly suggest to avoid it and to drain all the oil by the bottom nut (change the washer).

Normally (in my case the FSS interval is of 15000km).

To reset the FSS sorry I can't remember now. It's indicated in the service book or you can search on the forum.

fullysynthetic oil as 0W-40 specification is normally reccomended as perfect choice for the latest enginered motor. Our W202 is a early '90 car.

But if you utilize that oil since car was new it's should be ok

Use Mobil 1 0W40.
It takes 5.5 liters ( including filter change ).
Yes, you can use a topsider ( I don't ), that's what the dealer uses.
For re-setting the FSS, do a search.
It's a simple procedure. ;)

But I can't stand people that don't know if their ass is punched or bored, coming on here and making stupid statements.
Boy, maybe I'm taking the Internet too seriously. ;)

Personally, I'm not waiting 10K for the FSS.

I'm changing oil with Mobil 1 0w-40 every 5K-7K.

You should be aware that when the FSS system first came to the states, dealers used dino oil and then waited 10,000 mi. btw oil changes. Ouch! Consequently, MB has extended engine damage warranty to 150K.

BTW, I just noticed Mobil 1 is now $5.99/qt. Since my car takes 8.5 qts, that's close to $60 for fluid alone!

Changed the oil....but the FSS stll wasnt on and following the instructions to reset it from the manual I dont beleive worked.

Does the FSS have to come on to reset?

The last time (and first time) I had my oil changed, the FSS indicated I had 5,000 to go. However, after I had the oil changed, the mech successfully reset it.
A long way of saying, No, you don't have to wait. Unfortunatlly I have no idea how to reset.
