View Full Version : gonna upgrade my stereo.. have some few???
Ok, so I want to upgrade my system.I think I'm gonna go with the Boston Acoustic Pro50s front and back, and a single infinity Kappa Perfect 10" sub. I'll also be using a Harman Kardon Traffic Pro head unit. What kind of Amp should I be running? 5ch amp? Or go with a 4 ch a mono for the sub? What brands are good for sound quality? I get discounts on Boston, Alpine, Rockford. Not really looking to spend more then $700 retail for an amp. What other accessories should I get? Uprade speaker wire? BTW I have stock bose system with a Harman Kardon Traffic Pro.

I would go for 4 channel a mono for the sub.
I am currently running a VIBE 2800Watt amp Driving 2 Vibe black Air 12 " Subs.
I still only driving the door speakers off the head unit but when the new adaptors come the replacements will be fitted and a 4 channel amp added.
You have got better control of you bass using a mono. More quality more control.

I have the infinity kappa perfect 12" sub in my car. i am looking for another one so i can run two.
The infinity subs sound so nice so i totally reccomend them in that regard! i had a RF sub which cranked but just didnt have the sound quality of the infinity. the 10" and 12" have the same magnet and power rms rating, so i would reccomend possibly thinking about the 12" one.
Good luck with the install man! will sound great which ever one u pick :)
yea lanzar make some ok amps i guess, if i were you i would get a 4ch for the speakers and a dedicated sub amp, this will give you more individual sound control sub/speakers. your sub would need a good amp tho, and remember only go with proven brands and you cant go wrong!

Just curious...but what's a 4.1 channel amp? Got a link to the specs?
I'm familiar with the .1 wrt source components, but not applied to amps.

You should run Diamond Audio's D971's up front to the D9800.2. Then two sets of s600s's powered by D9800.4 or D6600.4. For the sub, one or two D9 10 or 12's powered by either the D61500.1 or a D61000.1 for each. Diamond Audio makes some excellent quality equipment. I am in the process of putting in a system very similar to this, but it will have a center channel for full 5.1.
If you want to listen to these check out Magnolia Audio Video at Arden Fair in Sac. They have the Boston's and these so you can hear the difference between them. To me the Boston's seem a little bright, and at prolonged listening at high volumes it doesn't sound as good as the Diamond's.
I've listen to both the bostons and diamonds. I prefer the Pro50 over the S600. I think the S600's aren't as clear and I like my sound a little brite. Sound more open and the staging is a bit better. I think the Pro50's are better suited for the music I listen to, I don't need a lot of mid bass. I really like the D971's, but they're 7" and won't fit into the doors without custom work. i don't want to cut into the doors. I was thinking about the Boston Z series, but I felt that they weren't as clear as the Pro50s. Another thing is that I get a very good discount on the Boston, whereas I'd have to pay retail for the Diamonds. I can't justify the price.
I think the D971's are almost perfect. You can hear so much detail in them, but the size is just too big for me. I was thinking of putting them on the rear shelf, but most of my listening is up front.
BTW I think I saw your car parked between Mag and BB when I went to listen to them.

Yea, the D971's are some of the best I have ever heard. They will have to have a custom install and the crossovers are huge. They won't fit in the doors. I wish that I could listen to Focals to compare, but they don't carry them. Whatever wou choose, they will sound good, better than most, and certainly stock. We have to get a meet so I can hear it all. Yea, that prob was my car, I don't really see any other modded 202's around this area.

For your system I think a 5 channel would work best. Less wiring, less real estate taken up, no need for distrobution blocks etc. That alpine would work great. I have run both, 2 amp and one amp setups. Unless your going for crazy spl and want a dedicated monster on the subs, I would go 5 channel. Then again, I wanted crazy bass and a monster on my sub in the 'benz, so I got a Memphis Belle. Best of both worlds... its rated at 50x4 and 1100x1 RMS. It aint no joke either, the sub section of that amp is just crazy.
