2phast let me ask you did you steering wheel come with the studs for the airbag to sit right? with mine, it didnt come with it so i tryed to take out my old studs but those dont come off??? what should i do?

Paid $325 for mine, and no, my airbag won't fit it, I have a Sportline wheel in the 500E which uses a different airbag, so I am on the hunt for a proper airbag.

Studs??? Hmm, I know that you need to probably gut your existing wheel and transfer the horn contact ring and assembly, the airbag should sit up flush with the wheel and the Torx screws should screw down into the airbag, so not sure what studs your referring to exactly.

This new wheel is also larger than my sportline wheel, not sure exactly, but the new wheel is 400mm, the Sportline appears to be around 380mm

you see were the 4 holes are(the metal) part. i tried to take mine out from my old steering wheel and those dont screw off. thats were the air bag bolts in to and it keeps it up and in place.

Well, actually do you see the two holes, between the metal mount points you mentioned? One on either side of the wheel? Thats how the airbag mounts, two torx screws, one on either side.

Go here http://www.2phast.com/190e/clk55.htm and take a look at how I gutted my 92 wheel and transplanted the componets into a 99 CLK55 wheel and installed it.

Hmm, something still sounds strange here, the bags from 92-99 were all interchangable (all except the SLK/CLK and Sportline) so a 92 bag would fit a 99 wheel and vice-versa. I have held in my hands, airbags from early on to later (99) and aside from texture and the presence of a chrome star (S Class bag) the dimensions and mounting points were the same.

Do you have the Sport option on your car?
