ok, today i started to tint my rear 3 windows ...

i bought 2.5% black tint, soooo dark i cant really see shit but i love it that way.

easy to put on and no air bubbles. the question is does anybody know the tint laws in california ? i have 2.5% in the back and im planning to go with 60% in the front two.

for CALIFORNIA....the two front windows CANNOT be tinted at all...

if you follow the Cali Vehicle code, no tint is allowed on any of the front windows, (windshield, driver, or passenger) unless you have a judge's or doctor's permission.

And even then, it's supposed to be "removable". How that's defined, I don't know.

Practically, it's the luck of the draw...kind of like not having a front license plate. You may get cited and have to correct it....or you might not. It all depends on the cop.

yea i know about the front tints and the lisence plate law ...

Im goinf with like 65% in the front because its not really noticable and it looks good too.

but what about the back 3 windows ? does it matter how dark they are ?

i have 2.5% which is dark.

no real restrictions on the rear windows...i just think it looks ghetto when there's too much difference between front and rear, or when the rear's so dark that you can see the defroster wires.

pimp would be the electronic rear sunshade

I mean i live in california it aint like we got freezing weather.

Hmmm ....

yep got to agree with that, when i first had my tints i tinted it super dark all round, then i was forced to take them off, and i ended up doing something similar to ur set up...it looked pretty bad
as for the scrapping of the window defroster...all i can say is dont think about it too long and drop the idea

Got my windows tinted about a week ago i just went a slightly lighter in the front the in the back. Looks good, I would post pics but my car is not worthy of Club 202 just yet. Oh yeah and about the cop thing, i just try to look out for cops as much as possible, or just drive with you're windows down as much as possible.

Here is CA:

I too do not like the look when the back is like 5% and the front is 60% or nothing, but thats the law. That's why you just do the same all the way around.

I like the one at the bottom, would get rid of all those cars with purple bubble ghetto tint.

my 2c
i have 5% tints on all the doors, and 35% tints on rear window, and just winde up the electric blind so it end up darker than the rest, then you can put it down to reverse.
try and get it even right round and it looks better and more even.
my radio doesnt use the rear view defroster, must be the newer ones

ok, well im not going to scrape off my defrosters, altho my radio is an aftermarket kind does that still use the defrosters as an antenna ?

.. i did my tints myself - well its not done yet but ill post pix wen it is, my are not 5% they are 2.5% which is 50% darker then the 5% ones.

heres my progress so far -

car is dirty but the windows are sooo blacked out! you can see the differance.

this is my first time doing tints ... not that hard. but im going to redo that window, and make it even better - it was a practice try.

unless you install ur own antenna the radio will use the defroster as its antenna, and the window looks good but u cant properly tell from this pic
good luck

Hey, remember me?

I'm always here to help. You can e-mail me direct too.

The defrost wires should never be scraped off. They will not always come off evenly creating a horrible look. Typically the antenna in the rear glass is for AM only.

Keep in mind that you need to put felt strips on the 202 or
all your tint will scratch from going up and down.

I agree with most of you that dark in back and light in front
looks wierd. I'd rather take my chances with a 30 or 20 all around.

Also there are color stable tints available now from Llumar. No fade to purple any more.

Hope this helps, Scott.

Abuimad, with your fingernail find out if the scratch in your glass is on inside or out. If it's on the outside , the felt strip won't help but you might want to replace the outside molding. Take it to a
glass shop and get a professional opinion. If the scratch is on the inside then the felt will stop any further scratches but you may want to replace the glass before having tint done as it will even look worse with tint over the scratch.
Felt strips are available by sending me $10 via PayPal at
(scott_blackout@yahoo.com). The kit is 4 srtips of self-adhesive
backed mohair felt cut to approx. length. Also instructions.
I will also accept check or credit card (M.C. or VISA) just call
me to arrange it. (414) 329-4000.

Rollin, Are you getting color stable film? Otherwise in about a year it's going to be purple. For best results remove the door panel
before you tint the door glass. Not only to apply the felt but it will be easier to tint the whole window top to bottom. Cut the film to finish size first on the outside before peeling. Call me if you want
some pro help.

Good Luck, Tinter.

yea yea i found out that it is easier if i take off my panals to tint,

the hard part for me is the little window on the rear doors (the one that doesnt open) if I was able to pull that one off it would be soooo great because the film is hard to cut out exactly on the line.

thanks for the tips!
