View Full Version : Negative Camber problem

I just installed a camber kit that I bought from SpeedyBnz for my rear last weekend.

It turned out great. I no longer had the negative camber that we get when we lower our cars.
I was also happy that I would not have to deal with early tire replacements as my inner side of the tires wears out much faster.

The problem started yesturday. I noticed that only the rear passenger side was no longer straight.
It was starting to go negative again.
I thought it was strange and thought maybe the car just settled in.
Was planning on removing the tire and taking a look this weekend to see if maybe something was loose or I may just need to re-adjust.
However, today when I drove to work, I noticed that the rear was really bouncy.
It's mostly the same side that is causing the bounce.
When I parked and looked, the negative camber was even more negative than the day before.

So my questions is, is this problem related to:
1 - the new camber kit,
2 - possible need of a new strut
3 - possible need for new springs
4 - both 2&3
5 - all of the above?
6 - something else that I may not have thought of?

Anyone had similar experience with bouncy rear or sudden negative camber?

2, 3, 4 will not affect the camber. Even if your springs and shocks were out, the upper control arm links hold everything together. It sounds like there may be a bad bushing or heim jont problem which would shift the linkage position. Perhaps the heim joint locked up and started binding (which may affect the ride too).

Just my two pennies.

If this is the case, I think I am screwed.
Gawd, I already spend way too much on this car this year.
Any ideas of cost to fix at a Indy?

It's possible that nothing is wrong and it's just overly thinking about it. Happens to me all the time.

Hope your right.
Gonna remove tire and take a look Saturday.
Just hope I can make it home in one piece.
25 mile drive home will be tense.

Oceanview,

Please let me know what you find out. I have never heard of a failure of one of my Camber Arms yet. Maybe they did not tighten the jam nuts properly on the install.

If there is something wrong with the camber arms let me know and I will replace ASAP.

Jeff

my uneducated guess is the locking nuts (or jam nuts as s-b calls them) being loose.
i couldnt imagine anything else, unless the hub bolt is loose also

Well, your are absolutely right.
Just took a look today and the nuts must have been loose cause the length of the arm got shorter.
I went ahead and re-adjusted and tightend them up and hope that they are locked.

Will drive around the next few days to see if they come loose or not again.

I also noticed that I may need the other part, not sure what the technical name of it is but its the other arm that makes a A to the hub.

Jeff, do you make these too?

glad you got it sorted, but you should really get it adjusted on a wheel alignment machine to ensure each side is even.
and why do you need the other arm? toe arm i presume??

Yes, I am waiting to install the MB bolts to the front before I get the alignment done.
I need the toe arm because I can see that the tire is not straight.
It is slightly pointing in.

Know anyone that has these?

the factory one is adjustable for toe,
it should be more than enough adjustment, unless your suspension is damaged

Is that the case on a W210?
I hope so.
Gonna take her in for an adjustment tomorrow.
