Does anyone else here drive their W202 in the cold weather? I noticed my gas mileage isnt very good and I heard its normal for it to drop in winter due to warm-ups but I noticed its alot.

mine went form about 400 miles to a full tank to 320 miles or so. It seems to run better tho'.

thats because of the cold air. cold(denser) air requires more fuel to create appropriate AF mix. thus you get more power and less economy.

Are you driving in snow?

There is something wrong, I get around 280 miles on a tank with a C36. And that is with the sub-zero weather we have been getting in Chicago lately. Have you checked your oxygen sensors lately? They can be off enough to run too rich without throwing a code. If you are running too rich, it can fry your cats, too.

what do you mean by tuneup? just change oil? or what, I mean I have had a new mas, plugs/wires, cam sensor, tranny flushed, coolant flushed not too long ago, water wetter, K&N air filter, what else is there to do, so I may do it?

I get about 250 - 260 a tank in my I6 C280, thats about normal since me and cousin, both have the same car. If you think about the driving style can greatly change the MPG, i usually cruise around 75 - 80 mph or just sit in Traffic for a few hours with my A/C on. Where as Stox, probably doesn't drive that fast since there is probably Ice and Snow on the road with Subzero temps.

ok well that makes more sense, I am driving in one of four ways, not moving in the great 91 and 55 traffic, chillin at a speed of 75-85, city driving, or open road driving at 105+ and what does tune up mean?

Where do you live?? I live on the 55 FWY i spend a good 8 hours a week on that FWY.

Tune-up = check your manual, its like plugs, air filter, oils, tranny fluid, and they check and fill all the other stuff and the famous INSPECT. haha, they charge an arm and leg to do that.

I live in irvine, so well i take the 55 to 73, I won't go near the 405, I have been on it a grand total of 5 times and each people drive crazy as fuck, seriously, I saw this suv almost tip over because it was driving so crazy, and the entire way for me is the 215 to 91 to 55 to 73, and backwards, on the 215 is where i can get most of my high speeds in, I really wish there was some bolt on for the stupid i6 so I could get a big more power from it, something along the lines of 15-20, oh well, I guess I am up to date on tune up stuff, and I never go to stealership anymore, I use to go to walters and caliber but they are a complete rip, now its off to tws, which is far away in its own right..... I am also in newport a lot, I have some friends on 13th street, if you live around there

Is it possible that your K&N filter is over oiled? That could account for some trouble. A new MAS covered in oil is still an MAS covered in oil. :-(

I have not cleaned the K&N, and I made sure it was not too oily when i put it in

I get close to 300 miles in my 4-3.

I used to get about 380 miles per tank on my 3.2 C280, and before I swapped for the 3.2, I would get about 400 with the 2.8.

to ashkan, the tune up for you car is spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, coil ends, oil change w/ filter, trans fluid change w/filter.

well that doesn't make sense to me because I have had changed within the last year

1. plugs and wires
2. fuel filter and fuel lines
3. oil and oil filter
4. mas
5. tranny fluid and filter
6. cam sensor
7. coolant flush along with water wetter added

and i still get 220, how did you get 400? that is insane 25 mpg is really very good

did you replace your O2 sensor? if thats original, you might want to replace it.

well, the 400/380 I got from my C280 is by constantly keeping it in tune(did tune up every 10k miles, and O2 sensor every 30k miles), by using all synthetic fluids and treatments and by using those fuel saving gadgets everyone thinks are BS, but as I said many times before, they worked for me.

It's most likely just winter gas and the denser air.

I suppose the one thing I have not had changed was the o2 sensors, do we have 4 or 2? ones before and after main cats? or am I thinking of something very wrong, and I live in so cal, there in no winter just hot and hotter, and in irvine its not so bad, low 70s and high 60s is winter for me 105+ is summer

since yours is I6, you should have 2 of them.

thats because of the cold air. cold(denser) air requires more fuel to create appropriate AF mix.

I'm not sure I'm buying this. It's true that colder, hense denser, air contains more oxygen/ cu. measure. However, the job of the O2 sensors is to monitor the oxygen level and adjust the petrol/oxygen mix accordingly. Therefore, the petrol/oxygen ratio is kept the same regardless of the density of the outside air.
