How do you update the mileage on a used replacement cluster?
I have a used cluster that I would like to put on my 1995 c280 and set the correct mileage.
I talked to MB and they said that once the cluster has be set it the mileage cant be updated. Is this true?
Is there a third party that can do it?

there is a tool that resets and edits the digital odometer readings, it costs about $600. I came across it while I was searching the web for the mercedes transmissions, unfortunately I dont remember the website.

If your reason for the new cluster is a non-functioning gauge, I think you can swap the individual gauges between clusters, and thus keep the odo. from your origional cluster. Seems like someone mentioned this awhile back, but I could easily be wrong. Anyone wanna comment further on this?
Or, if you're trying to upgrade to white sport gauges you can peel off the gauge faces and swap them.

OOO OOOO me! LoL
yess ive had stock black gauges, bought a used cluster off ebay (of coarse) and the one i bought was the white sport edition.
its simple to swap them - I wouldnt recomend peeling the sticker off, but the clear piece that it attaches to should fit whatever you have.
as for restting the milage im sure thats illegal, correct me if im wrong.

Are these not like other car maker clusters (GM, Ford, etc) where the cluster itself is only displaying what is stored in the computer?? In all other makes I have ever messed with the cluster was only a display and the ODO mileage was stored in the computer under the dash and only gets displayed on the physical cluster. On all those other makes you can swap clusters between them and the ODO shows the same as always since you are not changing the computer out which stores the info. Maybe MB is an oddball??? Can anyone confirm?
Or are you talking about those physical rotory dials that flip around. I thought 95's had digital?

my '95 c280 has digital odo.
I am assuming that the mileage stored in the cluster because MB tech said if bought a brand new cluster, it would need to be set to my current mileage.
I agree, It would make more sense to store it in the computer.

Yes that is weird if that is how they do it. I have had my '96 C220 cluster out before to replace bulbs and there doesnt appear to be anything electronic on it except for light bulbs and their citcuitry and the guages themselves - no memory chips or processors on it that I noticed. Wonder exactly what part stores the info? The LCD ODO display itself? We need a MB tech to read this thread and tell us for certain.
Have you tried posting this over on mbworld or benzworld forums? They are usually more active than this one, although I like this one too just for the 202
it can be done, in the UK its not illegal if milage is "corrected" for applications such as this!
its a program on a laptop, which then connects to the diagnostic socket, then type in the milage you want ,wait a minute, switch ignition on\off.... all done!
i saw it being done when a friend replaced a E320 cluster with a E55 one!
thats all the info i have
do a search on "milage correction" on google, theres many places, surely you will find one near you!
have fun
