View Full Version : Missing light bulbs?

The dashboard light indicating that the car has a burnt out bulb is on on my car (98 C43). I've been around the car about 10 times and just cannot find a light bulb that's out...
I opened the headlight clusters and found that _on both sides_ there seems to be missing a bulb. It's right under the main high / low beam light. Since it's missing on both sides, I assume it's not required / not in use in US models. Any info on that? If it's required, what bulb goes in there?
If this not the cause of the dashboard indicator, any leads where to look?
Thanks.

try this - shine it twards the light to see what that missing light bulb indicates.
it may be for a differnt model.
its the city lights/or daytime lights. I don't think US W202 came with them so its nothing to worry about. I had my warning light come on, but dissapeared after 10 min of driving.

If the warning light comes on and off it's likely a loose filiment in one of your bulbs. I had this happen and it took me weeks to track it down because by the time I would stop and get out of the car to look, the bulb would work again.

the light bulbs you are missing in your headlights is for the fog light (on a normal w202 non amg), and since your car is a c43.. the fog lights are in the bumper.
there is no bulb malfunction light for the fog lights anyway on the W202.
if it isnt a headlight bulb.. then it will be a tail light bulb or brake light bulb.
when does it happen? right when you start up the vehicle (or turn lights on) or when you put your foot on the brake?
as vbrock said its most likely a loose filament in the bulb and it will work intermittantly.
one thing you can try is with the lights on, try hitting the tail light housings to maybe nudge the filament loose. or just check all the tail light and brake light bulbs, if the glass bulb is discoloured in any way (either white or gone black/silver) id say thats the bulb that failing.
try tapping the bulb to see if the filament breaks.
Ive had this happen to me too.. its very annoying to keep checking the bulbs to find out they are all working!.. may just have to play the waiting game!!
hope this helps out.

The front signal bulbs will cause the bulb failure warning light to come on also, this was the cause for mine. SLAMMED_C, I don't know if when you said "headlights" you were including the signals or not...

no, I didnt include the signals when I said headlight.
I was just saying the most common bulbs to go out on the W202 are the headlight (low beam) bulb and the tail light bulbs.
but as everyone knows.. its fair game as to what fails on a benz.
it isnt the same for all owners!
