View Full Version : SRS light reset?

My SRS light came on...
Long story short (having to do with the kids, some soccer practice, a couple of gallon water jugs spilled in the front passenger area) but I believe it is due to seom water getting in some connectors in the front passenger seat area.
I disconnected the battery for 1 hour to see if it did reset the SRS light, but that didn't work.
Does it require a special tool or can it be done through the ODBCII port?
Txs.

air bag light wont go away until you fix the problem. its most likely the seat belt buckle switch thats defective, and according to your story, I pretty sure thats it.

Thanks... If it's as simple as that, I can live with it!
Where is the seat belt buckle switch? Inside the buckle assembly (that didn't get wet)? Or is it a connector under the front carpet?

the switch is inside the belt buckle, but do check the red connector underneath the seat, it might just be unplugged. it should be right in the front.

Thanks.
Once I have checked / reconnected, dried up / blown with compressed air and maybe even changed the switch... how does the SRS light get reset?

the light can be reset either by a mercedes scan tool or by disconnecting the battery for about 5min and fully turning the ignition key a few times.
In order to find out if the belt buckle is the problem, you will need to get it scanned, and if so, you will need to replace that belt buckle.

Really nenad? Will it work on a 96 like that? I have a 96 C220 that I stupidly removed the steering wheel airbag to do the cluster lights and while removed I turned the key on to make sure the cluster lit up correctly and ever since I have had the SRS light on, even though I put the bag back on correctly. I figured I would have to take it to the dealer and just haven't gotten around to that 80 mile drive yet. Is there an ignition/bettery removal trick to reset it?

if you have reconnected the air bag properly, then reseting the battery should clear the code and turn the light off.

like I said, if there are no faults(ie. the air bag is properly connected again), it should work if he doesnt have an access to a mercedes scanner. if there is still a fault with the SRS system, then it wont work, he will need to get it scanned and correct the problem.

Thanks. I'll give it a try this weekend and see what happens.

I believe that even if it is fixed, there is a code stored in the memory which from my experience is non-volatile (won't be reset by disconnecting the battery).
A stored code will be indicated by the SRS light that goes on for 2 minutes then shuts off.
I'm not a professional tech, so that may not be 100% true.

that is true, except the light will stay on for about 30sec then turn off. the only true way to turn off the light is by resetting it with a scanner, but the battery disconnect method is a quick fix on most occasions.

nenad i was meaning what boomin benz said.
as described the light will stay on for like 2 min then go off, as there is a stored code and nothing actually wrong, i had to simply get the code cleared at the merc shop with the scanner,
this was because i failed my warrent of fitness as the officer said that my srs light stayed on for too long on startup,
you cannot clear this problem by disconnecting the battery.
sorry for my confusion
