last night i went to turn the key in the ignition and the key would not turn. I was told it is a ignition lock tumbler ??? is this common?

yes it is standard on almost 99.9% of all cars on the road.

really??? I have never heard of this before and I have owned my share of vehicles. Is this going to be expensive to fix? The dealer said they had to break the ignition to access it.

Oh my bad, i think i misunderstood your post. I thought you were reffering to when you take the key out and you wiggle the steering wheel to lock it it locks the ignition.

So when you put the key in you have to wiggle the steering wheel to unlock it so that you can turn the key.

My bad.

For you key not being able to turn. DId you check if the gear is in park or neutral?
