i dunno where should i post this thread.

i want to clean up my engine bay. and i know that i will need an engine degreaser. and engine degreaser need to be washed by water once in sprayed rite?

the question is can i wash the engine with water (after being degreased of course)?

the challenging question, can i spray the engine with the high pressured water spray? if so, which are the parts that needed to be covered?

thank you,

before you soak your engine bay and short out or flood something, read this:

Personally, I forego the hose thing all together and just hand clean each piece.

You can do a good job by hand. I wouldn't use any of those cleaning products and would definitely not use the hose.

A rag, some degreaser, a little armorall, and a few hours is the best way to do it. Start from the top down armoralling hoses and plastic surfaces. Then hook up some degreaser to the nasty bits. Make sure your degreaser isn't flammable at engine bay temperatures. I know Armor-all isn't. Takes quite a bit of heat to light it up.

Amen. Plus the hard work is rewarding when finished.

I always use an engine degreaser that I spray all ove rthe engine bay.. then use a power washer with hot water to spray everything clean.. and of course an air nozzle to blow all the water away.
works mint.

obviously you dont want to be spraying super close with a power washer.. and make sure to blow all the water away with the air nozzle.. especially near the alternator, spark plugs and any electrical connectors.. But I have never had a problem yet.

I start first with some Saran-Covers, Saran Wrap, and some electrical tape and start sealing off all the showing wires/valuable components in the engine bay. Then I take the pressure washer at the car wash, turn it to engine cleaner, and I hose the enitre engine bay down thorougly never spraying directly on one of my covered parts. After that, I take the Spot Free or just non-triggered "Rinse" (which ever is more powerful) and wash it all away. The idea is to use something low-pressure, but not so low you can't wash anything out of the engine bay. Never had a problem doing it this way.

i do the same thing except when i do wash it..and after i blow the water away with an air nozzle...i keep the car parked for the whole day with the engine hood open (its inside my parking so no biggy) just to play it safe since i did hear a lot of disaster story's

steam cleaning is the way to go. dries right off and no need to use any chemicals.
