hi guys, im just wondering what do you have to do to remove the gear knob on a w202 auto? do you just twist it off the stick or is there more involved?

thanks

for the pre-facelift 202's, a portion of them would require the shaft change. for the updated ones, the lower part of the knob can be twisted off, and after that, the top part just pops out.
there's a thread here that gives a detail tutorial on how to do a shaft change on the earlier model. do a search.

That plastic ring on the bottom of the knob twists, just because not to use too much force and strip it.

this is not true, most preface lift w202s you can jsut do the same as the updated w202. Its the ones that use 190e shaft that requires a change. like 1993-4? im not sure what year
