Koolvin's friend had clear taillights painted red...personally I would never want to have any painted taillights in my car...especially not in the US where everybody gets sued for anything.
Getting rear ended will never be the same again with painted taillights :( .

How retarded. yes paint them, I want to do that as well!

And not ALL Americans sue everyone for just anything.
What a generalization completely conditioned by television.

Yeah I know who Steve is. He's very good as his craft and he knows his stuff. I wasn't saying he was retarded, I was saying his opinion about Americans always suing each other was a inaccurate generalization. Too much television.

Actually, I would agree with him, this country as a whole is very litigious.

In any case, I think what he was alluding to was that if you have painted tail lights and get rear ended, the person who rear ended you could sue you for impairing their vision of your tail lights- which would be the opposite outcome of most rear-end cases.

I am really baffled on how any cop, driver, witness, or anyone in the world would ever even know that the tail lights were painted though.. "OH MY GOD OFFICER, look at his tail lights! Those aren't stock OEM! The 1994-2000 W202 never had two-toned lights, this is an outrage if I have ever seen one, oh sweet jesus!"

I'm not buying into it what so ever. I think if a body shop does it
right it would look very OEM. And if they were to do it, you could request some type of transelucent paint that resembles a very OE look to it And in the small chance that you were in an accident, and in the tiny chance that you were the one that caused the accident, and in the small chance that anyone involved in sueing you was an expert in Mercedes tuning
and cosmetics were to go after you, I mean jeez!

I'm pretty sure you're gonna be ok. Call me Evil Knievel if you
want, but..

i hear ya on this deep. But just to add, in california, liabilty accidents are comparative, not sure how it is in the rest of the country but in cali you can be found a % at fault for an automotive collision.

And in a simple rear-end collision where most of the time the person from behind is found at fault, a painted tail light could get the person that was rear ended partially to blame.

Not hard for a bodyshop to tell if a light has been painted, they would just see if it flakes off, colour plastic will just scratch, painted ones would flake. And the party behind could say that because the lights where painted it was hard for them to tell that the brake lights where illuminating at full power and that if it where they for sure would have not rear ended them.

And ya you could say bull to that but in the world of insurance anything is possible. Shoot one of the question asked of rear end collisions is did the party that was rear ended had its brake lights working properly.

but I hear ya but in california anything is possible

hehehe...I know...those are the story's that actually make it to this side of the world...

Then again, when ever I say I come from the Netherlands - people say: oh...the Netherlands...where drugs are legal and XTC is made. Talking about generalisation...everyone already forgot about our dull windmills, tulips and wooden shoes ;) .
